Subject: Daemon Chariots, Are they worth taking?

I know there were buffs to chariots in 7th edition. Has anyone had any experience with any of the Daemon Chariot Models? Are they any good? I love how they look, but don't want to invest in them unless they are effective. don't ever see these units in competitive lists, so was curious if anyone thinks they deserve some love.

I can only speak to my own experience, but daemon chariots are the bane of my space marines. they are just so fast and kill my guys so efficiently. they are armored just well enough that I can't take them down with bolters and my opponent always has something else on the board that keeps my anti-tank busy. I think that chariots are not for a new player and take some skill to master but when they work they are brutal. I would say that they are worth it, but you need to know what to throw them up against.

I've gotten some good results from my burning chariot, since I can jink without affecting the rider the chariot gets a 4+ cover save at all times and S6-7 hits I can take on the rider effectively giving me 6 hull points although a meltagun or lascannon shot can still ruin it pretty easily. The survivability is augmented by taking a greater reward, 3+ armour or 4+ FnP realy helps against autocannons and such. Since its shooting isn't witchfires it's also quite reliable, especially the torrent flamer. As for damage the flamer can ruin whole marine squads while the anti-tank shots can do occasional wonders. It also shouldn't be underestimated in close combat were the hammer of wrath can damage small squads.
So as a summary it's good enough for most games where it can do a wide range of tasks and prove surprisingly survivable as long as it isn't hit by lots of S8+ shots.

Jink does affect the rider because they are the same model being a chariot.

Despite some buffs, daemons chariots are still bad. Here some reasons why:
-Some compete with soulgrinders and daemon princes in heavy support, and are the inferior choice.
- One of them is in fast attack, which is one of the best sections of the whole codex.
-They are all still open topped low armour vehicles
-Changes to the chariot rules mean that the riders can now be targetted in cc. This means that your 40 point seeker chariot is as durable as a 9 point daemonette when it comes to cc.
-Heralds placed in them are not buffing a squad of flesh hounds or daemonettes.

The Skull catapult has a funny tarpit trick. Because its a riderless chariot it can still get locked in combat but has no way of dealing damage (except for the initial HoW) though is still hit on its front armor of 12. If its in combat with a unit that can't hurt its av12 they will be stuck in combat indefinitely because they can't take advantage of the Our Weapons Are Useless rule they never get a chance to choose to fail a morale check so can't leave combat.

I think they are largely ineffective because there are much better choices in the hotly contested FOC slots. If only they were elites D:.
The ap3 flamer can be nice against MEQ meta but tahts about it.

to answer the earlier question, I keep facing up against chariots of slaanesh. I don't know how getting stuck in combat is really a problem for the chariot, my squads hardly ever survive the ridiculous number of HOW attacks, let alone the attacks from the chariot direct that have higher Int. I think I survived one round once, and my opponent just backed up and inch, recharged, and that was all she wrote. the sheer number of attacks that the chariot can put out puts it really high on my list of dangerous targets that deamons can bring to the table.

Chariots are locked in combat now so your opponent can't just roll a chariot back to charge again if the combat is still going.
Also I don't know what you are playing exactly but the slaanesh chariots are open topped rhinos for durability so you should totally be able to shoot them to death.

The Skullcannon is actually pretty effective at Hammer of Wrath'ing vehicles to death. It's S7 on the charge due to the Demon of Khorne rule, and it gets D6 HoW hits because it's a Chariot. That certainly puts the hurt on rear AV10/11/12 vehicles. Hell, you could probably suicide charge AV11/12 walkers and reasonably expect to knock at least a couple of Hull Points off at I10 before it smacks you back. Really handy to keep in mind if your Skullcannon has had its actual cannon destroyed by a penetrating hit.

People always think the chariots are so fragile, and forget that they are themselves also deamons, therefor enjoying a constant 5++
At the very least it negates some enemy fire.

Cahriots only get D6 hammer of wrath hits... that isn't that many. Are you playing it differently? It sounds to me like he is getting more than d6 in this situation.

Seeker, Exalted Seeker and Hellflayer Chariots have the Fleshshredder special rule which grants them D6 HoW hits for each hullpoint remaining. These are resolved at S 4 with Rending.
So the Exalted Seeker with it's 4 Hullpoints gets 4D6 HoW hits. Plus Heralds of Slaanesh can take Exalted Seeker Chariots also.
Edit:
Also you can fit a hilarious amount of Chariots into a 1500pt Slaaneshi list. 11 Exalted Chariots (9xHS and 2 Heralds) and 3xHellflayers and that is still CAD. I mean it's probably totally useless but still it would be a hell of a sight.

Riderless Chariots are attacked in CC as per regular vehicles. Only Chariots WITH riders are being attacked as per front AV. So, a Skull Cannon, SHOULD be getting hit in it's rear AV once locked in Combat as there is no Rider to defend it as per the rules. Curiously, I have actually run this before and found it to be quite fun. Not sure why, but, it was just entertaining to watch me roll so many darn dice from those HOW hits. At str 4 and rending, you are effectively hurting anything that isn't a Flyer nor AV14 as you can actually glance AV13 with Rending due to the +D3 result. Having 4HP per Vehicles, 3 Vehicles per Cavalcade and 3 sets of Cavalcades, you effectively have 36D6 worth of Dice to roll, all with rending. Of course, you'd be hard pressed to find something in which to pile in several Chariots at a time, but you get the picture. It's a LOT of dice.

Speaking of chariots, both the Skull Cannon and the Blood Throne got rules in the new FAQ to give them 2 extra S4 (5 on the charge) AP3 attacks on top of the profile for the two crew members. A pretty decent buff to charge into things and murderize them in the face.

The fact that the rider can just be attacked normally in combat makes the whole set of rules totally useless to me. Theyre so overly complex and weirdly written, it'l probably be a few more editions before figure it out.

Chariots aren't too difficult. When shot, owner decides the target, when assaulted, attacker decides the target. Wound/Pen allocation are completely the same from that point on other than the fact that you use the Chariot's Front Armor.
