Subject: Better Ariadne starter?

So as you know, i'm waiting on my Operation: Icestorm box... meaning I have ZERO games under my belt... but that said, I know the tried and true advice is "play the models you like". To that end, I know I want to play Ariadne, as I always love my Eastern European forces (my family is Polish and there is a fair bit of national pride there), and I also love the Antipode Assault Pack, and also the upcoming Dog Soldiers. I'll probably want a "Werewolfy" list with a smattering of cool SAS looking Brits, and Kazaks.
That all said, I am assuming a "starter" is always a solid first purchase. As such, which of the two existing ones would be a better place to begin? Not knowing the rules it seems like both have three "jobber" generic looking folks, and then a couple pricier models which seem to bring the starters up to roughly 150pts.
There is the all purpose Ariadne starter, and then seemingly a more specialized Scots one... but as I don't know the rules/nuances of list building, I don't know if Antipodes will play better with other Scots, etc...
Any advice? I know "SW" points are a consideration of some kind? Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: Woah.... is it just me or is EVERYTHING out of stock at Miniatures Market? Do they just not restock? Are they stopping Infinity support?
I went to the Ariadne section and its literally 75% "out of stock"

I don't really know the ins and outs of Ariadna, but in general, the core box works best if you want to make a generic army, if you want to build a Sectorial army then the specific boxes are usually better. If you want to play Wolf-heavy, check out whether the core or the Scots list has the highest AVA of the various types, and pick the one that has the highest.

I would advise waiting a few months. It is very likely that we will see a new "generic" Ariadna starter since there will be a Kazak Sectorial coming with "Acheron Falls".

So, I was playing with the army builder, and can I just ask... are multiple battle-groups common at 300pts?
Its incredibly hard to make a level 300pt list that only has ten models in it, without having special-weapon-cost issues, or hiring mercenaries...

I too find it a little hard to get 10 or less guys in 300 points, but one trick that I've seen mentioned is to put units like Snipers that are more there for AROs than Orders into a second Group; that way, you're still getting the most from your 10 orders in the main group, but not losing much from having the Sniper out on his own or with only a couple of Orders to spend.

Thanks for that tip. Even with the little I know of the game, I can absolutely see the wisdom in that.
Now, if only Miniatures Market would stop listing EVERY Infinity model as "sold out" for some reason. :-p

You can also try The Warstore or if you are really in a pickle, Atomic Empire.
I cannot stress enough how great The Warstore's service and reliability is.
Atomic Empire is a shop local to me and they seem to be hit or miss with web orders but the actual shop is great.

I'm actually from NY so I am familiar with the Warstore. Great people and always a pleasure to do business with.
Incidentally, for my personal pride, let me just add that MiniaturesMarket added the "We're restocking Infinity" notice hours after I found them missing. :-p

Acheron falls will probably be another year, though.
They don't tend to push books out every few months - it's normally 1-2 years for a book and 3rd ed takes up this year's slot.

They've said that Acheron Falls is next year.
It originally was supposed to be out this year.
In either case, I would not be surprised to see the Kazak Sectorial "starter" coming within the next six months. It's an older one and what is more the Kazak range is being updated.

I went through the same thing when I picked my force. At the start I ended up picking up the scots guard box set because I love how they look. I then say I can use all of them if I do a scots sectorial so that's what I went with. Personally finding doing 10 guys to make an army is easy. I might not match my special weapons to a T, but I get very close. I also try to get the models with the weapons I plan to use.
My Adriana army is:
William Wallace
3rd Highlander Grey 2 shotty
(5 guys)Scotts guard box + scots guard missile launcher
2 Caledonian Mormaers with a HMG and t2 rifle
1 Highlander SAS
My only concern is that with N# the points costs will get all different and it might be over or short.
I have done this with a Aleph army and the Ice Storm armies.Soon Yu Jing!

I like the Kazaks and look forward to any starter they get, but I just individually bought the Kazak stuff from the generic Ariadna starter.
