Hi all,
Do any of the armies stand out as having more access to "shenanigans" than others? In WHFB, I played Skaven, and absolutely loved them for their chaos, randomness, dirty-tricks, and rules-bending. Is there an Infinity anaolgue to their playstyle?
I really like the feel of the Nomads with their koala-bombs, and robot-jump-furries, but I'm not sure they'll live up to what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance!

All factions have access to various shenanigans. It's just that some do them better than others. Nomads do sneaky hack shenanigans better than anyone else, though - which is not to say they can't do runny-choppy or shooty shenanigans too.
Shooty, choppy, tricksy, invisible, etc.
When it comes to this game, please leave your preconceptions from other games at the door. This game plays entirely differently and to attempt to play it the same way will only end in tears.

Shenanigans is this case is probably most closely linked to tech toys. Access to smoke grenade, viral grenades, multi-spectral visors, hacking, guided missiles, ODD, symbiote armor...
ALEPH and Tohaa seem to have the most gimmicky-ness available in my opinion. But, like chrome dog said, each faction can be just about anything. Everyone has the option to play some shenanigans if they want.

Combined army can mind control their opponent's models and turn your big bad rocket toting LT against you. That's always fun. Plenty of armies can do things like not place a model or even a marker on the table and just make a note of where that sniper is hidden until you need him.
Ariadna can drop 20 camo tokens and nothing else on the table so your opponent has no idea what's what.
You're not going to find an army with a table you roll on to see if your weapon decimates you, your opponent, or does nothing though, its simply not that kind of game.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

How is air dropping in as a special thing? How does it work? Can people make all air dropping forces?
|
Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

Nomads, Tohaa, Aleph.
Nomads aren't going to disappoint you. Best hackers and repeaters, excellent skirmishers and weird warband options.

Yes you can make an all "air drop" force for some factions. It does have huge limitations though.
1) LT off board so in Loss of Lieutenant immediately
2) your first turn order pool will basically be "deploy". This gives the opposition a high chance to shoot you as you arrive, with no shots back from you.
3) due to the nature of Airbourne Deployment, there is a very good chance some or most of your troops are in bad positions, and may even be in the open. This will give the opponent a great advantage.
4) even if the goal is to try a 40k like "waste the opponents first turn as he will have no targets" you won't generate any AROs so he can have a turn threat free. This will allow him to take most of the objectives.
5) if he has a hacker, he can hack your deployment!

And not that you necessarily going to be playing in ITS format, but those games typical (if memory serves) are only about 3-4 turns. Infinity games do not last very long and you are driven to complete objectives more then shoot your opponent, so if you are off the board for a turn, you are giving your opponent a free turn to run up on objectives.

As everyone is basically saying. Big tricks like full drops, while legitimate and possible, are only going to serve very specific situations. That's kind of the best thing about Infinity with the playstyle you want to achieve though. Your opponent will never be sitting there with your anti-list because he knows you drop everything and has countered it at the list writing stage. He might be sitting there anticipating you dropping everything like last time but this time you've brought a pair of Geckos or a plethora of hackers. You can swap in a new trick every game and that's way better than buying into one playstyle.

It seems like a better idea is to have one or two drop guys you bring in when needed than going all air drop. Thanks guys! In the end though, I've decided on NeoTerran, heavy on the Bolts. Their "gimmick" seems to be "surprise, we all also have shotguns are are awesome!"

First off...your screen name is pure class. I approve.
Secondly, I think you should just go with your gut. They aren't called the 'Dirty Nomads' for nothing.

Thanks Rusty, right back at ya! =D
And thanks to everyone else that posted, I appreciate the comments.
I'm def going with Nomads, I like the models way too much to do something else. The following models REALLY appeal to me.
Tomcat w/ Zondcat
Prowlers
Sin-eater Observant
Riot Girls
Reverend Custodiers
Morlocks -or- uberfallkommandos
Lunakhod Sputniks
Zeros -or- spektrs
Zonds
Zoe and Pi-Well
Karlotta and Moriarty
Lizards
Szalamandra
Anyone want to give me an idea of a workable 300pt list(s) (ITS and reg) that incluced mostly those models? What are the bigger holes in a list that contains just them?

My first purchase was the Tomcats with the Zondcat. I recently got the Uberfall Kommandos as well.
