My local Barnes and Nobles is closing and is having a 30% sale on all non-book items. So me and my brother snagged X-wing. He'll be imperials and I'll be rebels. I also went and got an interceptor and B-Wing. (Always has been my favorite fighter.) I was originally just going to wait for Armada, but at a discount, X-Wing is hard to ignore.
I have to say that just looking through the rules has gotten me excited to play this. The quality is top notch and I can't wait to play.
I'll probably snag a few more fighters today. Not sure which ones, but I can't wait to get playing.
Any suggestions, recommendations, advice for a new player?

2) If you aren't crazy enough for #1, I would recommend grabbing a 2nd starter- you'll get extra dice and templates, which are really useful, and it is also is the cheapest way to bulk up your fleets. After this, grab an X-wing and TIE Fighter blister. These have extra pilots in them, including some of the best in the game. Other than that, it is really just "Grab what you like". Almost everything is useful (especially since you are playing Rebels), and comes with useful upgrade cards.
Definitely pick up the X-wing blister (mainly for Wedge) and if you like B-wings (and who doesn't, they're cool ships!), the Rebel Aces. If you can find it, get the Millennium Falcon, it's awesome.
I started off with only Rebels but have since started to collect both. I'm a big fan of buying at least one of each ship that comes out, mainly for the cards, and if I really like it I'll buy another as needed.

Thanks for the info. I'll get another X-wing next.
So far, I have
X-wing
B-Wing
A-Wing.
My opponent has
Tie Fighter x2
Tie Interceptor
Tie Advanced.
Next I need the other X-wing for all the extra goodies, then I've been eyeing the Hawk and a Y-wing.
I can't believe that this game is restoring my love for Star Wars.
If only they had a Clone Wars expansion. I hated the prequels but loved the ship designs.

I love the prequel ships as well. I've a diecast ARC-170 and I'm sure they made more at that scale (check e-bay and such). I'm also lucky I've got a bunch of micro machine star wars stuff that I can also use (there's places on the net to stat up and print out dials and cards for home play).
If you do a search on the internet, I'm sure you'll find cards people have made for the prequel ships as well.
First thing to do is buy a 2nd core set. Seriously. Its the cheapest way of expanding your forces and that way you and your brother can have a rulebook and template/token set each.
At some point however you will want to pick up the x-wing and tie fighter expansions separately for the extra cards.

I like it. It can be very much "Eggs, all, Basket, one", but it is tough, agile, and nasty maneuverable with that whiter K-turn. Plus, it is the only ship that comes with the predator card, which is probably the best EPT there is.
