So, As the title says, I have been away from Fantasy for a while. My group played maybe half a year to a year of 8'th edition and then they changed to 40k. We where meant to continue fantasy aswell but they had trouble doing two games at once, Thus only 40k hapend. Well, A few people in the group are gonna get back into Fantasy again starting with a small skirmish rule set we found, Warhammer Warbands http://www.thekeeponline.com/documents/Warbands.pdf It seems intresting, So we will try it out to get Fantasy started again.

Anyways, I'm looking back at my first army I ever got in any miniatures wargame, Wood Elves. I havent gotten their new army book yet since we havent played fantasy in a long time but the new models are amazing.. Just as most of the old ones are.. I just love the Wood Elf models. So I decided to ask here, Is the new Wood Elf army book any good? What are your opinions on it?

The new book is pretty awesome. Some stuff is a bit annoying - Forest Spirits aren't as good as they used to be, and we lost the Kindred system, although the kindreds have been replaced by specific character types (instead of Noble with Waywatcher Kindred, we can take a Waystalker, for example).

Tactics have had to change a bit, but the core of the army is the same - awesome shooting, nice bonuses in forests, fragile as heck. Couple of new things, didn't really lose anything.

They are very balanced, yes. Wild Riders is the most painful unit I've played against in a long time as Vampire Counts.

Alaitoc Eldar: 5000p

Vampire Counts: 3000p

Death Korps of Krieg: 7000p

World Eaters: 2000p

They are still a somewhat finesse army, but they are much, much better than where they were say, a year ago.

This...I hate those friggen things haha

They are better now tho overall but it'd still an army that you need to be really good with tactics and need to make the right moves at the right time and bring the right units etc.

That's the same with any elf army. The WE fast cav list is especially true for that. One wrong move and you've given up 600 points of core for little gain.

Yeah, the new Wood Elf book is a huge improvement. It's brought the army up to par with all the others, and added in a bunch of cool new stuff whilst still keeping the Wood Elves' trademark playstyle. As a result though, it's a fairly difficult army to start with as they're fragile and require lots of finesse, but if you like the models and aren't afraid of a slightly steeper learning curve, then there's no reason not to pick them up.

Not all of the new models are great, as far as I know, however. Wild Riders and Sisters of the Thorn are fantastic, but the Treemen (whilst fantastic models) aren't the army's strongest choice on the battlefield.
