Seems like a pretty sweet boxed set. Would two of those make a solid tyranid force? Would you build one of the beasties into a tyranofex and the other into the tervigon? or would you roll with two tervigons and just buy some extra gaunts to bulk out a second swarm of 30? :O

Urge to play nids... growing... stronger. AHK

-Thank you guys!

It is a pretty good set, with good savings, especially if you get it from a discounter online. However, I'd suggest getting one of these and one Tyranid Swarm boxed set, as it gets you a lot more variety and more models between the two over 2 WotHM boxes. They're almost the same price, a few quid/dollars more for the Swarm, but put the two together and you have:

Tyrant/Flyrant
60 Termagants
40 Hormagants
3 Warriors
Carnifex
Tervigon/Tyrannofex
10 Gargoyles
A few Ripper swarms

I was playing with this in Battlescribe earlier, and even with fairly minimal upgrades, it's a 1500 list out of the box. Best option for starting Nids, I reckon.

So many units and only two useful models, so sad. The IG one is much better.

Sure, if you're after an army to crush a tournament with. Other than that, though, it's a very solid core of an army, with everything except maybe the Gargolyes being instantly useable (and the Gargoyles only need another box of them to be good as well).

Every unit is useful in some capacity, whether it's the best in its class or not.

I think we have a different definintion of useful then. Normal list don't run warriors, or guants. They are too weak with the new synaps rules and every second imperial army runing wyverns.
Nids use reapers, because they are cheap, tyrants , the flying nids , the smoke screen nids for first turn super cover..
Warriors ? what are those suppose to do and in what kind a list.
The fex could be useful in some weaker builds, but there has to be 3 of them.

Tyranfex are too slow and with the pod they cost too much for a torrent flamer. The str 10 guns are bad, because of its low BS.
tervigons died to the smash and biomancy nerf.

As I just pointed out in the other thread, we do. To you, as a product of the ultra-competitve meta you seem to play in, 'useful' means 'able to compete with the best stuff in the game', whereas to me, based on my own experience, useful means 'a unit that can benefit an army in any way', which everything in the box can.

I won't say one way or the other is right, but I imagine in most metas you could get good use out of the contents of the two boxes being discussed.

Not everyone buys models to win themselves tournaments. Necrons are my "I'll-make-you-weep-like-a-schoolboy-and-quit-the-game-in-an-inferno-of-nerdrage" army.

I collect Tyranids because I love the models. Being able to win with stuff everyone says is "useless" is also an added bonus.

In case anyone is wondering, this box set does indeed include the wings to make a Flying Hive Tyrant. (I was a bit worried about that, as there is no picture of a winged tyrnat on the box photos).

Yea I have my eldar for more competitive stuff, I would like to run tyranid just to fill my fluffy ideals of a devouring race and have some fun with them... our last tourney winner just as a side note at my LGS was a nid player. Idk they seem fun and there is an odd appeal to the nids that I feel no other army offers...
