Now the HQ can include bodyguard units too. So what is the ultimate troll sponge HQ?

Necron Overlord with a Res Orb, Phylactery, Semp Weave, Phase Shifter and Mindshackle Scarabs. This fether is already ridiculous. 2+ Armour, 3+ Invuln, 4+ RP, comes back with D3 Health after RP. If anyone happens to engage him in melee, more often than not --- said entity will kill itself.

As for becoming a sponge, you want something that makes him a threat. I don't believe a Warscythe actually helps with that. Give him a Gauntlet of Flame, then he can threaten many more units, especially hordes.

To prevent your enemy from simply ignoring him, he needs mobility. Many people would throw him on a CCB. I would personally not. A lot of people know the CCB thing and there isn't the Wow factor anymore. Attach him to a bodyguard unit that has a Veiltek.

That unit + your flamer Overlord teleporting into their back-field turn 1 =
two surprise flamers and a very, very killy CQC Overlord ready to charge next turn. The amount of fire they'll attract is astounding. Therefore you could use Sword and Board Lychguard to reflect some of those shots for lolz, or Immortals with Tesla to help shred infantry or Flayed Ones simply because why not?

Corbulo, 3+ armor followed by 2+ FnP with a once per game reroll. Pass off s8 attacks with a 2+ LoS or tank anything else with very close to the infamous 2+ rerollable.

I have saved units from an entire unit of dakkafexes without taking a single wound, tanked entire mobz of 30 boyz 100 attacks.... very little can compare to Corbulo small arms fire tanking.

10 Grotesques w/ a Haemonoculus and a Archon w/ Shadowfield.

Not the killiest way to use an Archon but, this happened:

He was attached to an Eldar Artillery squad, with a Farseer. For the sake of causing wounds, they are T7 (until a S6 wound gets through all the saves, then they can be instant killed). The Farseer got Fortune. Granted he didn't get it out every turn and, on points I lost but... that squad did not get eliminated (it was big guns never tire so I xefinitely got those points).

Mind you I ran a poor list for the sake of only using painted models and, had he not fired at that squad he would've won harder...

In the last Codex, Urien Rakarth's buried in a squad of Grotesques was, for want of a better word, Grotesque. Especially if you could get him into a challenge.

Having faced this - Eldrad had guide/executioner/fortune/mind war - Asurman had two Warlord traits - reroll 1 and stealth I really felt how absolutely bada** Asurman can be - jeez.

I've never tried it, but a Winged Hive Tyrant with three Tyrant Guard. Staying in 'walking mode' whatever they call it, until the last Tyrant Guard is down to a single wound or dead, then taking off to be the usual pain to hit as a flyer. That's a total of 10 wounds, T6 3+ Sv with 6s needed to hit on the final 4+/-W. All while there's another Flyrant doing normal Flyrant things because that's just what Tyranids always take in every list.

I'm going to go with the standard CM with shield eternal, the relic flaming sword of fire or a hammer, with artificier armor, all on a bike. 2+/3++ with that nasty sword striking at initiative or hammer all with 5 wounds, t5 and EW.

After using him quite a bit I'll have to go with the eldar autarch with a jetbike, fusion gun, laser lance and mantle of the laughing god. Yuo get a super-mobilie guy who zooms around the battlefield blowing up tanks or destroying small backfield units and when your opponents get pissed and start shooting him you jink for a 2+ re-rollable cover save. He can also hide in close combats with less punchy units since he can get out whenever he wants tanks to hit&run.

I'll second the Autarch on a jet bike.

I think an honourable mention should go to Asurmen on his own. 2+ Save 4+ Inv and he gets D3 rolls on the warlord table so every few games he can take the Fate's messanger trait to re-roll saving throws of 1.
Got any heavy weapons AP3 or worse or most small arms, forgot to give your leader a power fist or axe... well you can just sit and twiddle your fingers.

The best ones I've seen in my group are:

- Tau HQ with 4 wounds, T5, a 2+/4+ and FNP.
- Mega-armoured Warboss with Lucky Stikk, Cybork Body and a Big Mek with Kustom Force Field.

The best one I've seen so far is Draigo. 4 wounds, EW, and a 2+/3+ that can be easily upgraded to a 2+/2+ with a psychic power.

I'd take your tau commander and pile it up.

Tau commander with iridium and FNP, standing in front of Aun'va.

You get a 2+ save, a 5+ FnP and an additional "save" on top of it equal to the weapon's AP (AP1 auto fail here)

And in case there is a semi-reasonable gun to kill him, you got 2 aun'va bodyguards to LoS to. (each a T3 2W dude)

All that on a 4 wound platform that is T5. (though majority 3 until the bodyguards bite it)



You can also buy him a shield gen for a 4++ save if you are feeling that it isn't enough, though that's unlikely. he is simply absurd to try to get rid of. even D weapons are mostly useless.

I think you really need to have Eternal Warrior or an equivalent before you can be a legitimate tank.

A Space Marine CM with Artificer Armor and Shield Eternal on a bike with 10 TH/SS Terminators would be about as tough as they come. You could also throw a geared CM+Assault Termies into a LR of some kind. Add a Chaplain to ensure the Emperor's Wrath is delivered with gusto. You could also throw the biker CM with a 10 man Bike squad, Bike Command Squad, or 10 Jump Pack Vanguard Vets with Storm Shields for a more mobile tank unit. Some of those setups are ridiculously expensive, but they would also be a sight to see on the tabletop, even if just one time.

It's got to be a 45 man guard squad with that annoying dark Angel who gives 4++ saves. I had two doomsday arms hit the thing for five turns, didn't even get half of it. I did get Yarrick, who was also attached, twice, as apparently he has reanimation protocols too. In the end I had to send the barge lord in. Almost invincible, I tell you.

5x Paladins w/ Nemesis Banner and Apothecary + Terminator Librarian w/ Thingamajigger of Sacrifice who casts invisibility, in a Land Raider.
4 AV14 HP protecting 10 2+/5++/5+ FNP invisible wounds protecting 4 2+/5++/5+ FNP invisible wounds.
The fething unit has eaten the fire of my entire Nid army many times.

Take raptors CT with red scorpion seige vanguard allies. Take a scorp 10 man tac squad with seige manlets, take issodon as warlord, infiltrate unit onto an objective in cover.
The squad now has a 3+ rerollable save, followed by a 5+ fnp, and has +3 to their cover save turn 1 and +2 for every turn after. With 13 wounds.
Exceptional durability against shooting.
Cry when an assault unit charges them or when any ignores cover ap3 large blast hits them.
But tbf, you have 2 extra infiltrating units (another manlet squad and centurions maybe), and a ton of scouting razorbacks, as well as 7 HS slots, so they will probably be ignored so they can do their thing.

Or attach shen for a 4+ fnp, along with issodon for a 4+ cover + infiltrate + scout. They'll be more durable and threatening than with just a 4++.

Almost. I find any A-hole in a thunder hawk much harder to kill. 9 Hull points is really, really hard to shoot down, while jinking.

The Laughing God cannot join another unit. But nothing prevents other ICs from joining him now that the restriction of "cannot join units of single models" is gone.

Tau Crisis Suit Commander with Crisis Suit Body Guards.

Commander has 2+ Save, crazy mobility, and whatever array of weapons you can dream up.

Body Guards sport heavy firepower, are hard to kill, and have a rule that makes them automatically pass Look Out Sir! attempts. Add a support system that gives 4+ Invulnerable save to counter anything that might have been able to consistently hurt the Body Guards.


The above configuration has caused my forces so much pain....

Unbound dark angels cypher tied to azreal and a dwcs with banner of fort.

This is simply the best power armor foot marine walking (and yes this is table legal). Cypher has a 2+, shrouded, ew, 4++, 6+++

Did I mention the part where he grants d3 vp to the dark angels player regardless if he is killed or not.

So he has literally every save imaginable and if you ignore him or not you get absolutely nothing for it. In fact you are giving the dark Angel more if anything.

In a victory point games there is ababsolutely nothing you cab do about cipher in this fashion. Furthermore if azreal select his warlord trait as "the hunt" should azreal die in cc in a non challenge with this squad you gain 2+ d3 vp as the dark angels player effectively making victory via points impossible for the opposing team assuming an equal number of kill points on both sides and the game not being maelstrom of war.

This combo is literally totally broken I argue it's as bad as the autarch Jetbike combo from a technical perspective simply because of how totally he screws up the victory points score board.

To make matters worse if you ally wyche covers and field the right formation should your homm die you gain an additional d3 vp lol
