pretty simple but want to hear the masses.

If I am relentless, I cannot double-tap/rapid fire and charge, correct? This concerns bikes with plasma talons

Thanks in advance

What in the rapid fire rules tells you this?

Gravmyr,
It is the Relentless Special Rule he needs to be looking at.

Jinx, I think Grav suggested Rapid Fire as the OP seems under the impression he could choose to not "double-tap", fire a single shot, and still charge (which hasn't been a thing since, I think, 4th edition).

Josey - If you fire a Rapid Fire weapon, you normally cannot assault afterwards, regardless of the number of shots achieved. Relentless is explicit in overriding that restriction.

Correct. The weapon gives you range and shots and a restriction. Then relentless changes/removes the restriction.

When you see someone fire less shots specifically because they want to charge, it is usually because the units are armed with both bolters AND bolt pistols. So while the functional.effect in terms of dice rolled is half, the reality of the rules interaction is that they simply choose to fire their less effective weapon (pistol) because it doesn't prevent charging.

Obviously relentless overrides all of the above (you can always charge when relentless regardless of the weapon you fired)

Your Opponent should be telling you what they're firing. There's no "functional effect" - it should be made crystal clear.

Incorrect.

With relentless you can do this.

It always amazes me why people just don't read the rule book and instead come here and get a half dozen (sometimes incorrect) responses.

Pg. 63, 'Bikes'; BWB: Special Rules- bikes have relentless

Pg. 73, Call Out 'Relentless' and pg. 170, 'Relentless'; BWB: "They are also allowed to charge in the same turn they fire Heavy, Ordnance, Rapid Fire or Salvo weapons."

I agree completely, but op sounds like he isn't very experienced so I was explaining how he might have picked up the wrong idea. He clearly arrived at the conclusion that there was some sort of "fire 1 shot and get to charge association" I was explaining under what circumstances this happens.

This is the case as stated above. 2 games of 7th edition. Buddy and I got out in third guys. So some of this is still familiar, some parts still cloudy. So we will read a rule but still walk softly because a little of the nuances have changed. Thanks again to all of you, truly.

Clarity comes from knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is gained from reading the rule book, and wisdom is gained from thinking about what you just read.

I read the unit entry about bikes, saw the relentless special rule. I then thought about that for a second- is a Dark Angel Space Marine Biker a Bike unit? Yup. OK, let's go read the special rule 'Relentless'. So I can charge in the same turn as I fire a rapid fire weapon. Do the Dark Angels Space Marine Biker have rapid fire weapons? Yes. So they can move, shoot the weapons that are marked as rapid fire, and charge. What does charge mean? Time to go look up the assault rules... really, if more people approached the rules like that, this forum probably wouldn't exist.

People miss stuff. If it offends you so much that people sometimes need a little help to find a rule, I would recommend finding somewhere else to spend your time.
