The link doesn't work. Just post the whole thing.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/929519929/its-a-trap-0

Additionally, it'd be nice if you subtitle your post to specify what this is.

It looks great, honestly. It also fills a nice niche that doesn't really exist. The price is a bit high, but I can imagine a bunch of nice uses for that Dwarven Floor grinder beyond just traps.

Really cool stuff here!

I'm updating your title so that you hopefully get the attention this deserves!

This would be amazing if it wasn't on Shapeways.

It's a cool idea, but too expensive IMHO.

3D printing them all, instead of 3D printing masters and casting them, is probably the main culprit.

Spoiler:

as an example
Cursed Guillotine $25 vs. Fenryll Miniatures: Executioner and Guillotine $16

It's $6 per trap for 1x1 add ons?

I really hate doing this, but I have not had the greatest of experiences with Junk Robot's past kickstarter. Between poor quality and VERY blown shipping and manufacturing timetables, it was not a great experience. I admire their dedication, but they also plan to use the funds from this kickstarter to finish shipping another, as they posted in their last update:

Hey guys.

Sending out a quite a few international damsels packages today woot! will update the website this weekend again.

Stop by and see if you can crack the code:

17 attempts 0 successes so far

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/929519929/its-a-trap-0

I am using some of this money (if successful) to be able to ship the rest of the over priced International Damsels packages next month.

Thanks,
misty-

They are literally waiting for new funds from this new kickstarter to be able to ship people rewards from a prior one. That prior kickstarter was supposed to deliver DEC. 2012. I get business cycle, profit off kickstarters, but the way they are using this to fund a past kickstarter just rubs me the wrong way.

Actual Ork Bomma radio transmissions intercepted:

"Dis is Oddboy to BigBird, come in over."
"BigBird 'ere, go ahead, over."
"WAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!! over"
"Copy 'dat, WAAAAAAAGGGHHH!!! DAKKADAKKA DAKKADAKKA DAKKADAKKA DAKKADAKKA DAKKADAKKA DAKKADAKKA!!... over"

I agree with Denkstrum, that the organisation of the entire business in run quite poorly. I backed a previous KS, but lucikly got a refund. While I wish JunkRobot the best of luck, I think it would be a better way to wait until this stuff might hit retail, and pick it up from there. There are also, unfortunately, a lot of blame put on 3rd parties, and I don't really feel that JunkRobot steps up and take responsibility for the process. And it's not just with the process of fullfiling their previous KS, but also websites, computers, etc. etc.

Furthermore, and maybe the point I'd object to the most is that I find it quite disrespectful to use money from one project and move it into another one. That is not a sound business plan, and they should make it clear to all backers in their current "It's a trap!" KS.

So this KS is aptly named then?

Ha!

Well played!

Also, that is some troubling news - very troubling indeed.

I backed one of their previous projects (the Damsels one). Some of its problems were completely due to 3rd parties (one company that 3d printed the masters didn't pack them right for shipping and many of the masters arrived broken, IIRC), but not all. It's very much a "garage business" with a little too much ambition to do too much too quickly.

Those prices are not attractive in the slightest. $11 for two traps? Pull the other one monsignor, it hath bells attached. What sort of retail price would you be looking at post KS? $15? Ridiculous.

Edited for punctuation madness. Madness I say!!!

Yeah I went and read through the other 2 Kickstarters. Between the delivery date being given only 2 months from the end of the kickstarter, a 10x funding where they probably pushed themselves further than they could. On top of one of the 3rd parties going out of business.

From a good chunk of the comments in the KS's, people are happy with their miniatures.

Really the only thing that's keeping me from pledging are the prices.

18 of those traps could easily be cast in resin, using 1 piece molds, in a garage, and sold for $3 and still remain profitable.

I've bought tons of Hirst Arts Molds castings, that used more resin, for $2 a casting.

If this were my project I'd cancel the project. Make the molds and cast a bunch up. Relaunch the KS with a $50 for the 18 models as the core pledge level. Add the other traps as add-ons, and set a much lower funding goal.

Speaking of which, if these are being 3D printed by a third party, why is the goal $8,000 ?

Get the 18 3D prints from Shapeways or something, a $100 is RTV casting material, and resin as needed. Set the goal for $1000 and throw them a bone and an extra trap every $500-$1000 it goes over the funding level.

It sounds like a cool niche, but I really feel like you're asking way too much for the traps. This is compounded by the fact that I could make a fair bit of that stuff by just using bits out of my bits box. For $6 per small and $15 for medium traps I'd either expect something that looks really, really spectacular or actually works (like a trap with an actual little spring, working lever, opens and closes, retracts, has a rotating wheel, or something else), which you're obviously not offering.

One thing I did like was the video you have posted- it's a nice, camp little introduction video. The sound effects were funny.
