Hey Dakka, So i bring forth a list which has does fairly well in my meta, but I'm not liking how after turn 2 it kinda just fizzles out and thunder wolves run around and my grey hunters try not to die and make them selves useful.

Heres the List,

Wolf Lord, Fist, Shield, Thunderwolf , Runic Armor, 2x Fen wolves
WGBL Fist, Shield Thunderwolf, Runic Armor, 2x Fen wolves.
Rune Priest, ML2 , Bike

Grey Hunters , 10, 2x melta, 10 x CCW POD
Grey Hunters, 10 2x melta, 10 x CCW POD
Grey Hunters , 10 , 2x Flamers, 10x CCW POD

Thunderwolf Cav, 6,
5 x SS
5 x Claw
1x Fist and Claw

So basically all the HQs are with the cav, priest rolls biomancy, thunder star rolls up the table doing its thing, 2 pods come in turn one for some shooting, rapid fire that turn, get charged or charge when there able to.
Every wolf has shields because in my meta its kind of necessary to survive.
Wolf Lord and WGBL roll in the front with there 2+ 3++ tanking shots, (works every time)

I was wondering what i should do to a) add more shooting support it, the list feels way too one dimensional and one trick pony'ish and b) what should ido next to get to 1850, imperial knight? flyers? if so what goes in the flyer?

any help would be appreciated.
Also, Should i do something with the COF supplement instead

Any help would be great, even if its basically taking the list apart and re building it, I'm totally cool with that

The troop choices are pretty solid.

Only thing I can see is the huge TWC star. If that gets blown apart then you're losing the biggest threat on the field and your opponent will only need to outrange your hunters and whittle them down to nothing.

If I were you, I'd split the TWC from one group of 6 to two groups of 3 and split up which HQ goes with which group.

Beyond that, you have a distinct lack of anti-air (not always a concern depending on your local meta) but more importantly your lack of anti-armour is obvious. Three fists need to get in CC and four meltas that need to be in twelve inches. A good shot with a flamer could potentially take out one squad's meltaguns.

This is a good alpha strike list that is going to hurt like a son of a gun when it first hits. If you can cripple what needs crippling, it's a good army that can cause a lot of damage. On the other side of the coin, it can go very wrong. Just bear that in mind.

My problem is how to i put the pressure on after the alpha, thats where i have issues, like you said, it either works really well, or it doesnt. I never get tabled though.

should i add a flyer? how could i rejig the lsit to fit 2 flyers?

Thunderlord: Looks good, though a Wolf Claw might be a Better Choice. You will still have 5 I5 S6 AP3 Rending Attacks. This give you a good chance vs all but the Quickest Opponent in Challenges.
WFBL: Similar to the Thunderlord

Melta Hunters: I would drop a lot of the Close Combat Weapons, probably about half. A WGPL with a Combi-Melta could be a good choice.
Flamer Hunters: Not a bad choice for all Close Combat Weapons, but odds are you will never get to use them.
Drop Pods: Consider a Deathwind or three, these may not seem like a lot, but two or three of them on a single target can add up. Also a Locator Beacon might also be good on one of them.

Thunderwolf Cavalry: Drop the Claws on most of them, Not That Necessary as you are putting out a lot of S5 Rending Attacks. Try Power Fist/Wolf Claw on the Pack Leader instead of a Storm Shield, that is what the rest of the Pack is for.

Also the idea of breaking them into 2 smaller Packs might be a good idea, by dropping all of Wolf Claws you might even be able to upgrade the WGBL to a full Thunderlord.

Just their CCW. With their large number of S5 Attacks that will threaten a lot of targets and with the rending you can Glance an Pen AV14. I do it all of the time.

My Thunderwolf Calvary: I know it is not the same as the advice I gave you, but I like my models they way they are and not that worried about tanks.
Pack Leader: Frost Sword/Storm Shield
4x TWC: CCW/Storm Shield

i feel like all my good shooting though requires me to be within 12 inches. (melta) i do like the idea of dropping down the cav to have ccw's

With the Melta Hunters to get their full effect you need to be within 6".
You could go with Bolt Pistols instead of the CCW on the TWC.

On the 12" Range: I don't like to push them to much on people as some have bad luck with Plasma.
Personally my Go to are Plasma Hunters, toss in a Plasma Pistol and a Combi-Plasma and that give me 7x 12" Plasma Shots on my Pod in Turn. The only Unit that can stand up to that are Land Raiders.

I wish long fangs didn't get changed, they were the definition of space wolves heavy support

All the really lost was there ability to fire more than one weapon as a second target. Now it is one. I had to adjust mine some. I went from 1x HB, 2x LC, 2x ML. Now I am just going with 1x LC and 4x ML. I can't tell you how good it is because since then even with a Divination Rune Priest my Rolling has sucked so much I am think about going back to the original formation.

im kind of known for rolling lots of ones, unless its armour saves. i make those all day.

I have been pondering a storm wolf with 15 blood claws (just stock) and ulrik, thoughts?
or maybe even 10 gh with ccw and wolf standard

I love Ulrik and the Blood Claws in a Stormwolf. My only problem is moments after I dismount my opponent has to head home or something like that.
The fun part is watching your opponent's expression as you place the 16 models inches from the unit you want to crunch.

As far as the Grey Hunters, have not tried them out of a Stormwolf yet.

do you leave the claws stock?

it sounds like you've had experience with it .
is it as brutal for an opponent as it seems?

Per BC: One base attack, two attacks on the charge because of Rage, one attack for bolt pistol and CCW is four attacks each.

Fifteen BC that's sixty attacks on the charge.

Now you're putting Ulrik in with them. He's now giving them preferred enemy and stubborn plus his three attacks base, one on the charge (and I think one for his pistol and Crozius Arcanum? can someone clarify if that counts towards the CCW requirement for the extra attack)

So now on the turn you charge in, that's sixty-four attacks with preferred enemy. All without any kind of upgrade or anything.

I tool them out completely, Plasma Pistol, Power Axe, 2x Flamers and a WGPL with Power Lance/Storm Shield.
It might not be efficient, but it sure is fun.
