And your source for this?

The OId Ones were highly Psychic, but they weren't dependent on it, and were more advanced than the Necrontyr.

The Old Ones were the masters of the Warp. They did all the things they did via Warp energy. They were, basically, the polar opposite of the C'Tan, who were purely physical-universe beings (and to whom the Warp was anathema... or, so they said.).

Without the Warp, the Old Ones ain't got jack. This is all from Codex: Necrons, in the main, which explains the War in Heaven in more detail than any other source (since it's how the entire faction came to be).

100% this. It actually states in the codex that the Necrons had superior technology compared to the Old ones as well.

When it comes to judging the degree of success of humans I usually try to be cautious.
The early hominids arose, at best, about 7 million years ago. Homo Sapiens about 200.000 years.

Considering that the dinosaurs were the dominant life-form for about 160 million years, I think it would be prudent to be a bit more patient before we declare ourselves a huge success.
Sure, we have done some cool things like inventing the wheel and gone to space, but cockroaches are pretty nifty too

a valid question to think about..
Tyranids offer some variations to the simple bipedal organism, but what else could be offered?
- Some sort of Jellyfish/squid/octapus organism
-a flying creature/MC
-calvary
- a rip off of doctor who's daleks?
- a transformer??
bi-pedals are the most obvious choice for evolution. With poseable thumbs, spoken language, and free will what other option is there?

Spoken language and free will are not intrinsic to bipedalism

Dolphins alone are evidence against such a notion.

There will always be people who argue against Dolphins (because reasons). It's harder to find people who will try and argue that gerboas (a biped) have spoken language and free will.

Yes sorry, that was my mistake, I read Lexicanum and I read that wrong . Had a look at the actual codex now and it wasn't because of their advanced technology, it was because of their abilities with the Webway. They must have been fairly advanced to be able to use such technologies though.

The Necrontyr were losing before they forged their alliance with the C'tan, as the dynasties began to fracture again after many centuries of defeats.

Simple question, why are the Necrons robots in the image of humans? Why are they bipedal and two-armed? Are they just in the image of the C'Tan and why are the C'Tan human-shaped? Wouldn't it make more sense for the robots to augment, replace, and upgrade their hardware to suit their specifically suited task? Or is the two arm two leg look truly the superior and ultimate form of all sentient existence?

Not to be that guy, but Necrons are far older then Humans, so in other words, your question should be, why do Humans look so much like Necrons?

An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded.

Without going into the fluff, it's because when they were first released as a WD army they were basically supposed to be an army of T100's from the Terminator franchise. They original models being much more robot-skeleton looking than the current ones.

Without first-wave Necrons, would never have known the glory that is Assholetep.

One could say the Ripley Scott's Alien is a humanoid. And yet it looks nothing like a human. Why couldn't the Necrontyr, say, have elongated craniums? Or longer fingers? Or perhaps have 3 legs? 3 eyes? 3 arms. 4 arms. Their eyes ears and other sensory features could have been in their chest instead, or hey, they could be terribly hunched creatures with their heads naturally close to the ground. You could just take one of these ideas and put enough polish on it to make it work. Altering themselves as Necrons is all fine and good, but the fact that they were designed the way they were is just lazy. Not that it bothers me.

Uh, the original models that had heads between their shoulder blades and massive armour plates over their humps? They looked more like Krogan skeletons than humans.

The Necrons look massively dissimilar from humans too. Their limbs are proportionately twice the length compared to their torsos, and their necks are forward-mounted, not upwards-mounted. They have tridactyl feet and only three fingers for the most part. On top of that, we have no idea what their heads looked like other than "two eyes above a mouth". They have no ears or noses on the skulls.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Necrons turned out to look something like the Protoss. No mouths or anything besides eyes and they feed upon radiation.

Well, they have obvious mouths on their skulls, including teeth in the artwork.

Doesn't the Flayer Virus fluff specifically mention that Necrodermis bodies don't have mouths? The ultimate curse of the Flayer Virus is that the last change - the emergence of a mouth with which Flayers can eat the flesh they flay - will never happen. So that makes it clear that normal Necrons don't have mouths (but Necrontyr obviously did).
