So I'm just starting up Fantasy with Wood Elves, and was was thinking about starting to build towards this list:
Spellslinger Lvl 2 with Asrai Longbow and Dispel Scroll, rolling powers from High Magic in the Wood Elves Army Book
15 Eternal Guard with Eternal Warden, Musician, Standard and Shields
15 Glade Guard with Standard and Trueflight Arrows
8 Glade Riders with Hagbane Arrows
Treeman
If I've done my math right this comes in at just under 1000 points. What do people think of the list? Will it run well enough? I'm hoping to start with 1000 points and build over time to 2400 trying for an all rounded, fun list.
My idea is the Spellslinger and Glade Guard will hide in the forest I get to bring and shoot at enemies while thoring out magic, while the Treeman and Eternal Guard move up to charge, and the Glade Riders come on and shoot at things I want to soften up for assault.
That;s just the general idea I have, any feedback is welcome

Eternal Guard aren't worth taking. You're not a combat army, Wild Riders excluded, and you're committing to a combat block. Also, only level 3-4s can take high and dark.

More glade guard and another 2 glade riders to split that into 2 units of 5.
I'd give the riders true flight and the glade guard hagbane personally.

Is best core until you fight something like Skaven or Empire, then you are going to regret having so few bodies.
Wood elves are an army that does three things well: movement, shooting, magic. You need to capitalize on these strengths, because they are lacking in direct combat. Even the Wild Riders (the best combat specialists of the book) can only do so much before they get killed.
The treeman, unfortunately, isn't a good choice: there are just too many ways to kill it easily. Fire, warmachines, poison, high strength troops - they are all going to destroy a treeman rather easily; if you want a big monster, you'd be better off fielding the Sisters of Twilight on dragon (if they fit in 500 points, I'm not even sure).
You aren't using waywatchers. Without waywatchers, the only thing you have that easily shoots down cavalry and troops with a good armor save (such as white lions) is your mage, which then would have to use the lore of Metal. Waywatchers can simply deny armor saves, and the option to multishoot allows them to produce a large number of wounds when you need to thin out large blocks of cheap infantry. My suggestion would be to run one or two units of medium size.
Eagles are important. One or two can give you an extra turn of shooting against a strong/fast unit simply by getting in the way.
At 1000 points you have a few options for your spellsinger: life, beasts, metal, shadow and heavens are all good lores that can enhance a wood elf army and mitigate the weaknesses. You can field him in a unit of archers, or on a horse, together with some sisters of the thorn.

The M9" fast cav means that they don't care about that. Having run the full fast cav list, if you have the skill to play it, it's devastating. It controls the game from the deployment phase onwards. If there is impassable on the board, it's untouchable.

Then you deal with it. It's a game of dice. You have a 0.835% chance of an ambushing unit not turning up for the duration of the game.
