Ongoing kickstarter for Outrider: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/outridergame/outrider-outrun-outgun-outlast
The game has been available as a 'print and play' with cards available as a print on demand type item. Pretty neat mechanisms, and quite a bit of fun. Each player runs one or more vehicles, assigning dice types to his 'dashboard' which then are used to perform various actions. Maneuvering is done by laying out a path of cards. You can use the vehicle cards as vehicles, but many folks have (or will) use Hot Wheels type cars, often modified.
I'm pledging for the game though I had previously bought the cards and PDF rules. The box set with terrain tiles and hard copies of everything will be pretty neat. Gregg, the guy who designed the game and is running the KS seems to be a pretty good guy and genuinely enjoys interacting with folks playing his game. Even before this was a KS he was responsive and has been keeping up that trend during the project.
Project has already hit a couple stretch goals, and I like the fact that some of the goals go to enhance the boxed game for every one who ends up getting a copy.
If Mad Max/Road Warrior/Car Wars type gaming interests you, check it out.

This game is worth it. I have been a fan for some time. I actually printed out my print n' play copy at 50% so it would be about 15mm scale (so you can fit more action on smaller tables) and coupled it with some 3-D papercraft buildings.
It's basically car combat in the style of Car Wars meets X-Wing. Gameplay is pretty fast, and you maneuver each car on it's turn with a series of cards that you place in front of it- the longer and more complicated the harder the maneuver might be to pull off. Ranged combat is simple.
I also really like how the car customization for each car is a simple choice of 4 die (6,8,10,12), which you assign to each of the 4 car characteristics. Go heavy in one area, you automatically have to go light in others, so no vehicle automatically becomes a supercar.
As cool as fielding a group of cars is, the game is just as fun as a multiplayer, where several people field one or two cars each.
The basic game just has cars that have 6 hit point before they are destroyed, but the paid expansion (and already one of the stretch goals for the KS) has damage cards more like X-wing, that can affect aspects of play.

It is a good game, and I'm glad to see it get the KS funded so I can have a nice hard copy. Automatically Appended Next Post: Update posted:
Passed EXIT 11K ... Rest Stop ahead.
EXIT 11K has been passed and the CRITICAL DAMAGE DECK has been unlocked and added to VETERAN and LEGENDARY boxed sets. MERCENARY pledgers can pickup the deck as a $5 add-on purchase.
REST STOP: Outrider Toolkit UPGRADE
This mini upgrade at $11,500 funding will add some helpful components to the game. The diecut cardboard range ruler returns! Many playtesters will remember that this 1"x10.5" ruler was replaced by the range cards - well it is back by popular demand! Also included are a large-format 'rules at-a-glance' reference card, an initiative tracker and the public debut of the shifter panel. This new dashboard component introduces optional rules to the game, allowing players more control over their speed and a unique way to have more influence on their place in the initiative order.
We are also getting closer to unlocking our first social goal. The Outrider Facebook Page is closing in on 250 likes. Once that happens, The Kickstarter exclusive vehicle will be added to all boxed sets.
Next up:
EXIT 12K will bring the final four exclusive cars and some very cool dice
Social Goal #2 will be related to Outrider's BGG page and unlock another exclusive vehicle: The Chapparal - an Outrider vehicle built for combat racing.

They just hit the 13K stretch goal, and Gregg, the author has mentioned trying to work in cycles, pedestrians, trucks and tanks and trains.
Still time left to pledge, I think he is going to turn out a good product.

But it really wont be in peoples hands til Nov of 2015? I liked X Wing and played it, now I play D&D Attack wing. This looks like a cool semi futureistic type of game with the template moves. I like how you customize your guy and am a big fan of terrain tiles.
Things that are off putting is the cost and time til you can get it. For just being cards, no miniatures of sorts, 75$ is pretty steep

To be fair the boxed game is $40 and the print an play version is cheaper still.
Cards for small print runs seem to go for between 8-10 bucks a deck (using printed cards on Wargame Vault as an example) so add in the box, tiles, dice, printed rulebook and a couple of decks of cards and the $40 makes a bit of sense.
As for the wait? Who knows. I guess I would rather see a realistic timeline than a project that has zero chance of being on time. Of course nothing says he won't deliver late anyway, but I suspect there is a better chance of being on time with this estimate.
Download the rules. Check it out. If it is something you like maybe go for the print and play version to show some support. Or, wait for it to hit retail. I'm not sure of his distribution plans but maybe he'll go through somewhat normal distro channels and you'll be able to find a discount retailer.

Cards cost 9c each. I don't know how large the tiles are. A 4"x4" tile costs 81c. If you're printing a single copy.

Looks really cool, but I baulk at paying another another 50% of the cost of the game for shipping. One of those I'll keep an eye out for later, I think.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.” |

Mechanisms are completely different. It plays faster too. You don't use a grid and 'turn key' for maneuvering, you lay out cards. Stats are much simpler than Car Wars and as a result book keeping is much less.
If you are familiar with Car Wars you can download the rules for this and compare.
I think SJG approves somewhat of this game as Warehouse 23 carries the older print and play version. I can't say I blame you. I've not gotten things I wanted from outside CONUS due to the cost of overseas shipping, and lately the rates are ridiculous.

Love it. This game is right up my alley...too bad he didn't time the release to coincide with Mad Max: Fury Road theatrical release next summer.
I've heard great things about the game. So am pretty excited. Timeline is a bit long...and price a bit high. But I pledged for the $75 level to get the extras. Here's hoping for some more substantial expansion stretch goals!

So has anyone actually tried physically playing the game? It looks more messy than X-wing, and X-wing is pretty messy. How do you lay down a row of cards in the middle of the battlefield unobstructed?

Did you happen to watch any of the game play and preview videos linked from the KS page? They may be worth looking at.
Also, BGG has session reports and reviews (and videos): http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/68504/outrider

Okay. I see now. Each game represents maybe 30 seconds of real time, so there's not that much movement.
And I was incorrectly assuming there would be racing involved. I'm still looking for a good combat racing game that plays like the old 40k racing they did in DakkaDakka (the game store) except with a modern design ethos.

Check out Two Hour Wargames "Machinas" http://twohourwargames.com/maderainwa.html It is a very cool way of dealing with the racing thing. Your position is relative to the 'pack' of cars instead of the track. Make sure you check out the video at the link above. Ed (guy who runs THW) uses pretty unique mechanisms and they won;t be to everyone's liking, but I personally think the game is pretty cool. As for the game = 30 seconds or so, I remember big Car Wars games where we might play for a couple hours and only knock out maybe 10 turns (which if I recall correctly were 1 second each broken into ten 1/10th of a second phases). So Outrider probably gives you more 'real time' represented in a game taking less actual play time.
