Hi all,

A few friends and I are running an Imperial / Tyranid campaign over the Christmas break - fluff tbc but basically a big old swarm engulfing a few outworld planets and (hopefully) working their way to a heavily fortified stronghold for the last battle!

I'm pretty happy with my 1850 lists for the main games and the 5k list of the last epic battle buts its the smaller games I'm less experienced in.

Heres where I'm at so far for the 1000 point first game or two against Imperial Guard most likey, small chance of being drawn against some marines or SOB

Flyrant with Dev +EG & Hive Commander

Zornthrope

3 Warriors
Hormagaunt Brood (15)
Termagant Brood 1 (20 - Fleshborers)
Termagant Brood 2 (20 - Fleshborers, 10 - Devourers)

Biovore Brood (2)
Trygon Prime

That comes in at 1k on the money...

Basic strategy is to outflank the largest T.Gant unit to cause trouble early doors, use the biovores to snipe the heavy weapons out from the ranks, and then the flyrant to Str 6 spam any tanks hoping to ruin my day.

The Trygon is a good synapse creature to soak up wounds while my hive tyrant can hopefully run up turn 2 to deal with the tanks on the opposite side of the board, just as the gaunts are coming into range.

Only thing I see being an issue is if anyone goes full on tanks?

Looks pretty good. Mostly minor "style" issues...if you go to the trouble to take a 20x+10x Termagant Brood, that really cries out for a Tervigon...Trygon Prime is a good MC, but kinda expensive for what you get, if you swap out for the Tervigon, it is a Troop, still provides Synapse, and can to terrible harm on a Outflank. I would put a Thorax Hive on her, and with Electro-bugs you can Haywire Tanks, and slaughter AM with glee! That will still leave some points left over to add something more.

My favorite Big Bug at low point games is a Tyranofex, Thorax Hive (Electro-bugs) Adrenals, that costs 200. Swap that for Big Wormy, and you have 40 points left to pend some where, I would drop one Hormie and add a Venothrope.

Vs AM Tyranofex(as above) with a Zoey, a Veno, and a Hormagaunt Brood will be a Horrifying Unkillable Troop destroying Bugstar of Doom! (It's good vs most any, it's extra good vs AM with their save of 5+...)

Thanks for that - yes I think you may be onto something there - an outflanking troop generating MC is quite a tool!

I may go with Crushing Claws on him rather than the electro grubs to squeeze vehicles a bit more.

Venomthrope is a nice call as well - especially if that big gant unit is foot slogging up the field a bit.

If you want Crushing Claws, I'd consider that an add on, on top of the Thorax Hive. A Haywire Template can glance multiple Tanks, and scrubs infantry out of terrain with ease. As seldom as you're likely to make contact with aTank, I'd save those points for something else...

In low point games squeezing in some deep striking ripper swarms would be helpful for a late game objective grab with ob sec. I might drop the hormagaunts, and 4 terms for 2 such units.
