Iron Warriors Maulerfiend for my force. Features some weathering and rainlines, glowing eyes along with the smokestack ones, wear and tear here and there in form of chinks, dirt and battledamage.

I blended the fleshy parts with patches of broken down bluish grey, that transfer to metal to bring out the daemon/machine melding nature of a maulerfiend. There´s an unfortunate space marine biker who has been made into mincemeat with the mechanical tendrils and claws. I also weathered the warning stripe portions as to not go overboard with them, and to give it a worn feel. Went for a washed out look for the gold. No airbrush used, hand painted.

I hope you enjoy.

Delicious. So very delicious. A spectacular job! I love the dead biker details, it just adds so much to it

If I may, I have 2 questions:

- How did you create the fluids and the gore? Greenstuff? I'm assuming the thing bits between fingers is hot glue? (isn't it fragile? It seems like it would break at any given time).

- I'm constantly using gold on my paint jobs so I would love to know how you created yours

I created the gore by using contact glue ( I am not sure what it is in english, just your basic hardware store glue really ) and mixing it with red and brown inks. I let it dry and reinforced it with a coat of epoxy glue ( the really strong 2 component stuff ) applied with a sacrificable brush. It can´t handle falling off the gaming table, but it lasts an accidental normal touch.

Gold is one of the most horrible colours to paint when using a brush, as I have yet to find one that has even decent coverage. Usually you gotta apply multiple thin layers with the flakes not covering pretty much anything, or go for a super thick layer that kills your details. I paint gold by giving an area an undercoat of a leathery brown colour, one that is close to yellow ( doesn´t matter which, only affects the colour very little as some is ofcourse showing through the flakes in the gold paint. ) After that I paint the gold ontop. I like a washed out look for gold instead of a yellow one, so I am using Vallejo Game Color Old Gold. I give it a wash of blue ink ( Drakenshade whatever from Citadel, any dark blue wash will do ) as it kills the yellowness even further.

I hope these help.

Thank you for both of your tips I'm always using the same gold combo I enjoy (Balthaasar Gold -> Wash -> Balthaasar's Gold -> Gehena's Gold -> Auric Gold) but some models it doesn't make sense to use "healthy looking" gold, so this will help with some corrupted looking things

Never been a huge fan of this model. I like the parts individually, but when they're all together it comes off as too dinosaur-y and not Daemonic enough for me. That said, your painting and posing does wonders for it! Nice job!

Thank you fellas.

Obliterators are ready:

I knew before I even started that a brush can only get me so far, as the models are quite outdated afaic. I gave two of them MK3 helmets and one a newer mark helmet, as I think they look better than the models standard head and enforces the Iron Warrior feel. Nevertheless, I put a nice amount of effort into them, while knowing I´ll probably get diminishing returns.

Since I knew these guys wont be winning any painting competitions by model alone, I decided to give them a slight humorous twist. Obliterators like to collect weaponry to add to their own, however one of these is apparently mentally ill ( even by obliterator standards ) and he only collects bolters. Bolters pointing everywhere. I imagine he goes to battle and fells around 10 friendlies per battle as he just goes dakkadakka in all directions.

I made them all different, one sporting melee and ranged weapons in separate hands, one mixed, and their less sane brother just sporting the bolters. I painted some of the guns to be firing, like they are in battle. Some are full blast or overheating, some about to fire and some are doing nothing. One dudes arm, which is made up out of chainsaws, has some gore similiar to the Maulerfiend on it. The fleshmetal I painted with the same tone as the Maulerfiend, as I find painting it with normal flesh colour just tends to look bad. This colour also doesn´t contradict the other colours used too much. Other than that there´s chinks, rainlines, some dirt, wiring and a few light bulbs going on. I coloured them to have different bits in different colours, and to have the warning stripes in occasionally random places. This is Chaos afterall, and all of them are pretty much insane.

i like these. your paint scheme is sweet. im not a fan of the oblitarator models personally.. well, i like them upto their arms. they look almost like someone couldnt be arsed converting and just stuck loads of weapon ends into GS. your paintwork makes them look good though. i like the metal and the warning stripes.

Thanks. Yeah, the models are quite outdated. But atleast now the ugliest models in my army are done, and only the cool stuff is left. By this I mean the Obliterators, the Maulerfiend model I personally like.

i look forward to seeing more. i feel the IW can often be dull for a chaos force, due to their lack of mutations, but these should be sweet.

Basic CSM squad, in MK3 armour ( Iron Warriors collect and maintain the older marks as they have better frontal protection according to lore. ) The special weapon is from Kromlech, I decided to get one that can function as a melta, plasma or even a flamer as it´s not the direct model of any of them. You don´t become an Aspiring Champion by growing horns in IW, but instead by having the best wargear. The champ has a different helmet, some kind of comms relay on his back and a bolter with special ammunition - symbolizing a combi-weapon. Rust, dirt, battle damage like before.

For some reason photographing these guys was a bit difficult, but we´ll have to make do with this.

Thanks a lot guys, appreciate it. The photos of the marines were bugging me, so I took a new better group shot that shows the miniatures better. I put it in the post about the marines.

Received my Hell Blade today, I´m planning a dynamic base for it ( perhaps debris flying as it passes an object on the ground or so. )

God damn dude, this is a great looking force you're putting together. The blood effects are awesome, the metallics are grimy and subdued, and the caution stripes are subtle and not cartoonish. Really looking forward to seeing more of these guys.

Thanks mate. In a certain sense Iron Warriors are one of the darkest legions there are.

Their lore isn´t the typical stylized "we´re daemonic badasses of evil and darkness" -but instead something I find much more sinister; jealousy, paranoia, killing their own and destroying their homeworld among other things. I try to make them so that these blunt and plain evil aspects of their history, deeds and suffering is somehow relayed from the miniatuers by making them dark and gritty, unadorned.
