Looks good!
Keep going, work out a nice terrain for the bases, try air or drybrushing the power weaponry and it'll be bitchin'!

I like the laurel wreath shield, but the shape of the 2nd due to the unusual style of storm shields. Most of the symbology of the Ultramarines has an inverted Omega, wings, skulls, wreathes and the crux terminatus. If there was some fluff to give lions/eagles significance then any would work, or even a combination in the team (with say, 2 lion, 2 eagle, and 1 wreath, or whatever mixture)

For hammers, if it was my force, definitely the 3rd option. Do you have any metal guitar string to add as cables?

(ignore me - I don't know what I am doing)

I got a cheap brush to do some heavy dryburshing of the bases, i will try grey and then white. Still need to work out what kind of titbits i want to add. I saw a tutorial on wet-blending the powerswords which i will try. If that sucks i will see if i can find someone on the forum to airbrush.

I understand what you mean about the shields. I think you can request an order of all similar shields, but wouldnt that be a bit boring? The other shields dont need to much fluff since items come in so many varients/design/marks/paterns it is odd if everything is the same imo. I can get some gituar string, but to do what exactly?

Also, thank you both for your replies!

Guitar strings for power cables, for the power weapons. They can be difficult to manipulate, but a scrap bit from a broken guitar string is cheaper than making green stuff cables.

I found this dakka thread about using electric guitar strings as power cables, where people mention other methods as well.

Just an update, finished the latest batch except basing. Getting quite good with the eyes. Still need to do faces and power weapons for the full force. I am considering painting a landspeeder i have because there are no vehicles atm which i kind of lame. I could really use some help with how i can best divide my old models into 2 fun forces, see my other thread here.

Batch4

Will take some better pictures because this does no one any justice

Got to work on the landspeeder. Good progress, quite a lot of highlighting but it looks fine in my opinion. I left the bottom of the speeder black. I also dont have the base or the plastic rod so will need to think of something for that. I am thinking a copper rod and a heavy small base.

I am really bummed about the constant feedback regarding the plain basing. Really reconsidering my approach. Might be a nice step to switch to 32mm bases as well.

Great blue tones on that, it's coming along nicely!

If you are feeling adventurous, you could have the speeder flying over the molten wreckage of it’s last target. But what you are thinking with the rod is probably the easy answer. Nice crisp highlighting on it. It feels a little too dark, compared to the rest of your force. It might just be that the pilot/gunner don’t have the markings an whatnot yet. But a solid start.

Your bases might be basic cork ones, but there is nothing wrong with that. Not every marine needs to be standing on a diorama. Understated bases frame the mini better.

Thanks! Its a simple process vajello heavy blue and then blue wash. Highlight is just a drop or two of white into the heavy blue. When doing the highlighting and making too big of a mistake i just let it dry and fix the error again with heavy blue.

It is a bit dark, i dont think i did the auto correct in photoshop like i usually do. The other colors, when painted, do lighten up the place a bit. Now its either black or dark blue. I dont have any wreckage laying about and if i pull this simple force off (basically this speeder and perhaps the 5 assault marines) I can get a bit more creative on the 2nd force.

I pulled out my old predator which is based on the old rhino and its is ugly as heck. Feels bad

Cork bases are good, I do not see the issue. Maybe it is the In-Progress ones that are still unpainted?

(It's not like you've painting them Goblin Green) :-)

Update: Speeder done, except 1 face and base. Could do a bit more detailing should i feel like it.
Also wetblended the powersword (thanks guys for the suggestion!)
Painted lenses for dread (no pic)

Enjoy another load of poorly made images:

I enjoyed the speeder and I love that i can paint lenses now!

YEah! I finally got the maxmini bits in the mail. Really happy about that. I got 1 extra hammer and 2 gun bits extra. The hounds are a bit smaller then expected, and i need a gameplan/theme before i start on those.

I did rush the hammernators. I used the other 5 old style terminators i had to do a bit of converting to allow me to add the hammer and shields. I forgot about the squad having a heavy flamer and powersword. So now there is an odd combo of a powersword user with a heavy flamer.. and a banner. Cutting the stormbolters off was easy enough, but the hands look a bit mishapen now. I then drilled small holes for the hammers to fit into (2.5mm), since i dont own a hand dril, but did have the drill bits i just used my hands. I also ended up drilling the heavy melta on the landspeeder. The shields fit fine after i removed the skull knuckles on the powerfists. I am also thinking how i will go about adding the guitar strings as power cables. I never used green stuff before, but i think it might be the solution to tidy things up. Pics:

Also know that these models still need to be painted. I am considering stripping the 2 models, but might paint over them.

The shields do look good :-)

Strip first: Each layer of paint loses detail.

Anyway, i think i more or less completed the Ultramarine force. The remaining models will be painted as a second formation. I am not sure what scheme yet, but considering the fact I might want to paint some WW2 models next I would prefer to the next theme use one of the following colors:

Vallejo Game Color // Vallejo Model Color
Heavy Green (146) // Luftwaffe Ca. Green (823)
// German Cam. Bright Green (833)
// German Cam. Medium Brown (826)
// Black
// Grey

My initial ideas are that sons of medusa could work with the heavy green // luftwaffe green.

UPDATE:
found a great paint set from vallejo! It costs 18.50 + 3.50 shipping works out to <2.75 per bottle. Now i just need to consider if i want to buy it now or wait till i get my paycheck.

I agree, the SoM scheme when done right can be amazing! Kind of hard to see the detail on the Bolt Action, but looks good enough from what I can see.
