after that abortion my codex got today i thought id try and provide an alternative that isnt a pile of trash at all, while remaining in the confines of the units they used in the datasheet:

formation 1)

dark vengeance core hunters:

1 company master
1 librarian
1 tactical marine squad
0-1 interrogator chaplain

rules: relentless

this is a relatively cheap formation clocking in at just 335 before any upgrades and would be very useful in like a 1000 point army. it provides you with potentially three hq's and lets you include interrogater chaplain seraphicus as a thank you to buyers of the original limited edition. its not incredibly powerful but it can be easily applied to all kinds of armies

formation 2)

dark vengeance primary hunters:

1 librarian
1 company master
1 tactial marine squad
0-1 interrogator chaplain

you must then pick at least 1 of the following units

1 ravenwing attack sqaudron
1 deathwing terminator squad

special rules: relentless, furious charge; hatred (csm) (if every unit is brought)

clocking in at a maximum of 525 points this formation uses all of the assets from dark vengeance clocking in at 635 this is essentially an army in a can for lower point games and would be actually very useful for new players. not as utility oriented as the previous list but considering how cheap this list is (clocking in at about 500 - 630 points) it could actually be pretty useful in certain situations and it makes the dwt's a little better in CC

formation 3)

the anvil of faith

1 interrogator chaplain
1 deathwing terminator squad
1 deathwing knights squad

rules: feel no pain, anvil of faith

anvil of faith: all characters in this formation re-roll failed to wound rolls in close combat or in a challenge

lore: often deployed as a way of stalling the enemy while other forces capture a fallen or secure a vital objective this formation is deployed to hold the enemy in place as an unmoving ceramite wall that fight with such fury as they alone know what is at stake. should they fail in their duty the rest of the dark angels on the battlefield will also fail.

this formation is designed around making our access to feel no pain even more open ended and helps alleviate two major problems in our chapters 1) no good duelist 2) terminators that just cant survive. this is primarily a deathwing army detachment but one could easily take this and apply it to other armies as well if you fielded two max size squads as a way of driving a wedge or cutting up board control. again clocking in at a reasonable price (for terminators)

formation 4)

relentless hunters of vengeance:

1 company master
1 librarian
1 tactical marine squad
1 deathwing terminator squad
1 ravenwing attack squadron

and then you must pick at least two of the following:

1 ravenwing black knight squadron
1 ravenwing dark talon
1 deathwing knight squad

rules: relentless, hatred, furious charge; hunters of terror

hunters of terror: if any model in this formation kills an enemy HQ slot or warlord in a challenge all enemy units within 12" of the slain HQ or warlord must take a pinning test on 3d6

much bigger formation here but it has lots of use especially could be really powerful against armies with bad HQ's or lords of war that cant take a hit in CC to save their lives.

Yea, that Dataslate was pitiful. Very disappointing. So places they could've gone. Like a Cypher hunting team, or you know along the lines of that.

that seems a little silly. tbh i was expecting GW to use DV and the x-pac and tbh i would of loved that. from a logistical stand point this lets us take our oldest tricks (as of the DV box release) and breathe new life into them, and it would be fluffy and casual and all sorts of good stuff like that. from a buisness standpoint they really dropped the ball as if they had gone say my route as an example what you could wind up with is a way for existing players to buy into something they already have lying around on the shelf and apply it to their games. and when new players who dont know what dataslates are see you fielding DV stuff and doing well with it they would start looking into it (ya know if it had been applied properly). this would also let us take all those foolish gort mothers that come into 40k with a DV da army and who want to play with just that for the moment new ways to apply their models beyond being told that its a horribad idea.

which is why i propose what theyve been doing for a while now with codex supplement formations. apply those principals to BL formations for our chapter. dont be lazy about it and glue some things togeather and call it done; thats just a terrible idea. GW keeps throwing around this concept of "forging a narrative" but at every turn spit on dark vengeance buyers who happen to find the angels appealing for wanting to approach their army differently. chaos players have flavor, the other marines, tau, orks, and eldar have flavor, the gk's dont have much flavor but they never really needed it in the first place as they ooze character. the crons, and guardsmen will be ozzing it soon when one gets a new dex and the four dataslates for guardsmen come out this month. all i ask is that they treat us all equally. if your going to make a brb and army books and errata's and faq's that are focused on letting us be campaigny, goofy, themed leaguey, patrol duty, apocalypsy forces. back up your words with actions when it comes to every army. not just the ones you like or dont like. thats unfair and easily 30% of the reason why you have so many people buy dark vengeance for the angels, and then sell their armies on ebay a week later when they realise how horrible GW treats them. compared to other armies.
