Looking at IA-8 it appears that Grot Tanks are pretty much the same as a Kan except it can move faster. Has anyone tried running a Grot Tank wall? I really hope it is good because these models look like a lot of fun.

I haven't had much chance to dive into the FW books, but it possibly could be an option. But being faster I don't think will really help much if they are still frail. You'd also need a way to keep up with them, since you're KFF is on a model to model basis now, not unit to unit. You're best bet would be to keep a Morkanaught with them to have a larger KFF foot print. And you can't use a Big Mek in a vehicle anymore because a Big Mek's KFF only covers the vehicle he is in now until he disembarks. Then he can extend to models 6" away.

Another possibility. How many tanks can you take in a unit? Just be weary of Barrage, because I don't think Kanz or the Grot Tanks can LOS either :p

Though I also got to ask, even if the Tanks are faster, what strength and ranged weapons do they have? Also, is there a drastic points difference? Also, tanks and kanz will have different targets as well, so each may still have their use.

If I remember correctly, those grot tanks have a 5++ invul already. I could be mistaken, as I don't own the book. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure.

I do recall that. Something about parts just falling off when you're hit. I will look it up when I get home.

grot tanks

2D6 movement each turn - with the tank leader allowing a re-roll. Double 1's = auto pen on 1 tank.

Can always fire all weapons, regardless of how far they move (or something similar to prevent the fact they have a random movement affecting what weapons can shoot)
AV10
5++ save as standard

They can be equipped with:
BS
rokkits
skorcha
grotzooka
KMB

Ideally i'd equip them with grotzookas. They are BS 3, but even then with something like rokkits thats only half the squad hitting, so a max squad of 6 hits 3 times.
With the zookas your getting 2 blasts per tank, so 12 blasts for a max squad. Not so great against tanks and the like, but will ruin infantry.

pretty cheap too, comparable to a kan. You can take them in the codex: orks as elites, so long as it contains a big mek. So in a walker list its very easy to fit them in (as they dont take a heavy support slot like all the other walkers in our dex). In general the IA book has some awesome ork stuff, i really hope they give it an update, as the costings and rules are a little out compared to current dex. by this I mean, the IA book doesn't have the latest mob rule for example and the weapons are more expensive, but the tanks cheaper, so its still a good balance and close to current dex, but slightly off.

In terms of playing them instead of kanz, what they lack is a CC weapon. unlike kanz who you want in combat, the grot tanks aren't for that You can still make a nice armoured wall, would work really well with bike lists or buggie lists.

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

They seem like a good replacement for the kff in 7th. I would want to run them in front of my trucks to absorb the lascannon fire. With a 5 plus they might even survive.

well there also dirt cheap without upgrades. But yeh, the 5++ is nice, if you wanted them to simply absorb fire, in a max squad of 6, your looking at about 200 pts without gun upgrades, then for 250 pts you could run 2-3 with zookas rest just big shootas. Then use the shoota ones to be slightly out front - therefore absorbing the hits. So your 35 pt models are absorbing the hits, while your decked up ones are there pumping out mass blasts
