asdrubeal, stick with DE. They are (a) gorgeous on the tabletop, (b) rewarding when you learn to master the army (not a lot of "point-and-click" compared to other armies), (c) NOT another Space Marine army...and did I mention they look awesome?

i am a newer Warhammer 40k player and i have a DE army and a DA army and i'm starting a Tyranid army, but i was wanting to know what is the best army to have for a beginner, and the points value you should start with for ANY army

My advice would be to try and attend any gaming sessions you can before you purchase anything, and ask to sit in on the games with the different factions to get an idea how they play. Ask the players what they like the most out of the army/s, and what works best for them. Watching a 'live' game will give you a better feel for the army.

How would Splinter weapons scare armor? My comment was that the Coven list scares armor (as in vehicles) quite a bit and you responded with "Cuz the splinter weapons?".

Splinter weapons dont hurt armor. So im confused by the comment?

I would recommend space marines. Make your own chapter, then use BA, DA, SW or SM rules depending on what you want to play on the day. 4 different armies in one.

They are very forgiving, with good armour and atsknf, so are good for a newer player.

They are also one of the cheaper armies to start with.

they are great against fleshies, but the Coven has a very limited list of units it can use and splinter weapons really are only prominent if you take them on the Talos because the Talos do have the Spplinter Cannons... but then they are themselves so good at the job without a gun that i go with Haywire Blasters for the Talos.

Heres a battle Report I just did.

if you were the DE player, it was very well done, my only thoughts were if you could have brought the Talos guys in earlier

I was the Dark Eldar player. No I could not have. I had no reserve manipulation. offering the Claw up as a target in the early going seemed unwise. I felt it better to wait until the Chimeras attentions could not solely be focused on the one target before bringing them in.

yeah, i figured.... though you had a really good go with them until the guardsmen got in your way for the turn, even though you ate them.... it took a turn to do so.. the rest of your army seemed pretty good against armour.. im really wanting to get to my game store and play some games lol...

Get in there and do some damage.

Feel free to steal ideas. There are other battle reports on that blog and of course my philosophy if you find it at all valuable (and you may not).

The Dark Eldar were an army I wanted to play for a real long time. A grateful friend of mine bought the army for me and it has been every bit as fun as i thought it would be.

In any event, happy gaming and good luck!

Iindeed. my Dark Eldar blog posts are based on Dark Eldar, not Haemonculus Coven. You'll find it useful.
