New year, looking to start a new army gonna buy one set of models at a time and paint then buy more(Gonna try to anyway)

Gonna steer away from horde armies.

I want some awesome looking models to get my hands on!

What do you have already? I would vote SM, as they have the largest variety, especially with CT. Tau are fun gunlines and CSM are just whacky.

Orks are cool. So cool models and fun to paint. But you say no to horde armies haha.

I actually think tyranids and necrons have some of THE BEST looking models!!!

Blood Angels are what I'm going with. New models coming out in droves, Space Hulk and Deathstorm giving a huge amount of Terminator units, 33 total including HQ choices but two are Assault type without squads. That would give the start of two armies for you actually to play at low point games. Add in a Land Raider and Hive Tyrant and there's two purty new armies just waiting to be painted for minimal cost. Plus, Space Hulk.

And if you don't like em, ally them in small numbers to whatever Imperial force you have/will have. They can make for good deep strike assault units.

Just want to add that you can easily play Tyranids without hordes. Smallest creature can be a T4 3 Wound Warrior and Genestealers don't often come in groups larger than nine.

I had a Imperial Guard army and I have a Dark eldar army.

Yeh I like Nids but something about them in game I just dont like

I'd like to vote CSM, but since you said "awesome looking models", I'm afraid I cannot.

Orks are horde, and you don't want horde, so I wouldn't go that route.

If you like the Robotech aesthetic of Tau, go that way. If you prefer Space Vikings, Space Wolves.

I personally am inclined to suggest Blood Angels from the available choices and the criteria you've presented.

Yeh Blood Angels are awesome, only gripe is that I have a buddy who has been playing Blood Angels for 15 years+

Yeh we play regularly, Im a indecisive guy so when it comes to decisions like this, I kinda like them to be thrown onto me.

Me and Grey Knights don't get along, I dont have any fun playing against them.

In my actual group we have no Chaos players, but the troops etc are pretty weak. Although I love the fluff behind all the traitor legions which is a massive plus considering the painting and modelling side is what I am aiming for

Chaos Space Marines (troops) are only as weak as you make them. And Cultists...well, the more I play with and against Cultists, the more I hold them in high regard (although they are a hordish troop choice).

You can also "unlock" Elites choices to be your Basic Troops choices via various HQs. So say you take a Slaneesh Lord as your HQ, you can bring Noise Marines as your troops. Typhus gives you Plague Marines, Kharn gives you Berserkers, etc.

(Of course if you play Unbound, which I am generally not a fan, you can throw the whole FOC out the window and use whatever you want).

Worth a look, anyways. There's a whole lot you can do with that codex.

If you want to win, tau would be my first choice followed by SW. The rest of those armies are kind of weak and will need spam builds to really work well.

If you like Blood Angels, have you considered a Successor Chapter? Flesh Tearers apparently have a rich history and some Chapter specific models. Different color scheme, different special characters, same flavor.

Ignore the haters and go for the Tau, it would give you something different from a horde army especially if you go with the Farsight Enclave army. Super small and elite with a lot of firepower.

I don't see anyone hating on Tau. The guy wants awesome looking models. You have to like the Tau aesthetic in order to find their models awesome. Some people do, some people don't.

Not at all mate , it was more of a general thing and letting the OP know he may get some hate for playing Tau. Biggest reason is because most people have not gotten over how strong they were in the last edition, however now that they cannot be Battle Brothers with Eldar and IC's cannot join Monstrous Creatures they are not nearly as strong as they used to be.

I say CSM, but with all the love GW gives to loyalists (and denies to chaos) plus the upcoming release you will probably have nicer models to choose from if you go Blood Angels.

On the other hand - nipple armor.

I voted against my home team of CSM and went Blood Angels. Otherwise I'd go Space Wolves.

I'd say SW or BA, that way if you get bored of either of the two you can slowly slide into other members of the Imperial faction via allies (or use your bajillion allies to cover any weak points).

Must be alot of CSM fans around! I am leaning towards a CC orientated CSM army, I just wanna have fun in games now, winning doesn't really matter to me anymore.

The models for CSM aren't all that bad either(some of them anyway)

I went into my LGS yesterday and their was a Tau player, tabling a Nids player in turn 1, it was sad to see.

Death Guard (CSM). So much fun, foot slogging goodness.

You know, i used to like the space wolves, and when stormclaw came out, had considered starting them.

Then I saw Logan Grimnar on Stormrider, and decided it looked so stupid I couldn't even take the army seriously anymore.

I really wish they had toned down the wolf aspect a bit in favor of the viking aspect. there's already wolf everything. I get they're the space WOLVES and not the space VIKINGS, but it's a bit much, i think.
