Apparently they have a big cargo container full of em shipping at the moment, so it could be that the website will be offering them soon.

These sold out? Huh. And here I almost thought it was a regular-non limited item from the 4 still in my local GW...

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I popped into my local GW (Coventry) today, they had 2 copies on the shelf. I do not know if they were returns though.

Online they've been sold out for a while, but I haven't been to a single local store that has less than three. These things aren't hard to find.

They don't seem to be that rare in the UK either. My FLGS dropped the price on his last copy by 30% to get rid of it.

How did Space Hulk become Dreadfleet?

If someone had said that would have happened a year ago they'd have been called crazy.

Well, Space Hulk is actually fun, however, GW seems to have oversaturated the market, if what they were trying to do was make a LE product.

It depends on whether it was supposed to be a limited-edition, ultra-rare run, or perhaps a game to be stocked on shelves.
Also, the last run of it wasn't that long ago, so lots of people out there still have their copies. And even this run was only recent - a far cry from DF (or the Hobbit LE) still being on shelves a year later and heavily discounted.

I haven't seen discounts on it yet, but yeah, it is supposed to be a limited run. Comments on Amazon talk about buying it for $300+. People really thought this thing was going to be rare.

It's 'limited' to however many GW can sell

Expect to see it rereleased every few years, with a small enough production run to ensure it pretty much sells out each time, so that GW don't have to keep warehouses full of it, and maybe a couple of extra missions or figures to tempt fan boys to get the latest 'edition'.

To me, the only real surprise is that they haven't recut the SH sprues slightly to make a BA Terminators kit for the new BA codex and release wave. Although truly rabid fans will buy an extra copy of SH so they can rebase BA Terminators for 40K and have a pile extra of corridors as a SH expansion.

The tiny amount they listed on their web site sold out. Stores still have stock from the previous run.

I guess that keeps up the value of the BA Termies inside, and keeps them "rare". - thereby keeping the "value" of the boxed game higher.

I don't think GW knows what "limited edition" is supposed to mean. "Order now to avoid disappointment! Buy it today because when they're gone, they're GONE!...until we find another pallet in the back of the warehouse, then it'll be back on the webstore just in time for Chrsitmas. lel!"

So what do you think they did, anyway? Do you think they recalled some unsold stock from their stores and listed them on the website again, or did they actually do another small run just for their webstore? Also, did it go up on the UK site too or just the US, because if I remember right the second batch sold out very quickly in the UK but took a while to run down here, and as others have pointed out you can still find the box in a lot of places (I have about 3-4 of them available at two different stores in my area, and personally have the original copy and the newest release).

Could easily be that they held back a few especially for Christmas sales.

Not to rub it in or anything, but I picked up a brand new Space Hulk for $50 at my FLGS's Black Friday sale.

Dick. lol

If I could have gotten a copy for $50 I'd have totally jumped on that. If I have enough spares I might actually be tempted to try painting the models one of these days.

Hola... grats, man. I got mine for $105 Canadian, and I thought that was a good deal (MSRP being $150).

I am positive that is below cost.

My FLGS had a deal that was pretty sweet on black Friday -- buy 1 (anything) at ~20% off MSRP, get 1 (anything same price or cheaper) at 50% off. I went totally crazy :(

It could have something to do with this being the second time this particular run has actually gone back on sale.

Or something to do with the fact that this 'limited edition' was released scant few years after the previous one and had nothing different apart from some scenarios, some markers and some tiles so there really wasn't going to be a demand from people who bought the last one.

Now only a CSM player.

Because it's almost a complete re-pack of the last version (2010?) but no doubt in much higher volume. Pretty much anyone who wanted one is likely to have already got the old version before the re-release and the add-ons aren't enough to convince all but the most obsessive collectors to buy another box.

I love how Dakka can totally nerd rage over the previous SH being Limited Edition, saying GW were crazy not to make it a continually available product, then do a 180 and instantly rationalize how the same game can sit on store shelves because of oversaturation.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

Maybe they've had time to play it some more and realize how much of SH's pull is misplaced nostalgia.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I think space hulk is the best rules-light miniatures game I've ever played, and I only got into it in 3rd edition. It's also really nicely produced, considering what it is. Saying that GW exceeded demand or otherwise isn't selling their product well isn't a value judgement on the product.

The collector part of me is pissed I got last edition, and the new one is basically just a straight content upgrade over it; the gamer part of me is glad that one of GW's more entertaining products isn't selling for high, LE prices.

It's an odd upshot of GW's insane "Limited, limited, limited" policy, that stuff actually lasting on the website for a whole weekend (it went back online Friday evening, now it is Sunday evening, right?) is considered a commercial failure.

Even Dreadfleet didn't become the proverbial "Dreadfleet" until it was still in store in the early summer after an October release, through Christmas and all. Months and months of it being there.

What's the problem? It's a good thing that the print run was sufficiently large so that not only those people who happened to be alert at the exact minute it was released got the game, which is what happened last time around. Now, anyone who wants the game has a chance to buy it and who knows, it might even bring new people to the hobby.

It was obvious even at the time that online stores (including their own) only got tiny amounts of the print run to give impression of extremely limited supply.
