So had my first solo game at 40 SS - went very well - VIks and friends sliced and diced Ramos and his minons but had good cards and opp didn;t

Looking at changing slightly tas now got the Vanessa model:

Vik of Ashes
Vik of Blood - Mark of Shez'uul
Student of Conflict
Vanessa
Hans (and the gangs token male)
Desperate Merc
Ronin
Void Wretch

thoughts - does look like it will work? - have good ranged and nasty CC fighter with support for her?

I'd swap Hans and the Desperate Merc out for a Ronin, Johan, or a Friekorpsmann, and a Trapper: I find desperate mercs fold really easily, and the Trapper is nearly as good as Hans, minus some of the cool gimmicks.

And the trapper won't be fighting for those rams in your hand like he would in a friekorps heavy list, so he'll get to use his ram trigger more often (he has critical strike right? I can't 100% remember).

Thanks - is the Trapper in the base base book ?

I do have a lovely painted female Desp Merc so its harder to swap

The trapper's in the expansion, a Friekorps sniper. Regarding the merc, just keep her around- it's Malifaux so list swapping is common.

Right got it in the downloaded cards..............

Gives me a few more Soulstones to play with

Does a single Void Wretch work - it was the only thing I lost in the game but seemed to have intersting possibilities?

I almost always take one when playing outcasts- they're cheap and maneuverable, and if you play them right (spend your cards more liberally to get them up to a decent defense so there's less vulnerability early in the turn, run them only for objectives or against other cheap guys; try to tag with fast and engage, or tag with slow and avoid; obviously avoid things which circumvent incorporeal), they're very durable and can cause isolated enemies fits.

Even in Tara's lists, I consider Glimpse circumstantial and nothing to shoot for, unless you're using it to give one of your own pieces safe transit up-field or set something up for an already unburied Killjoy.

They're not the easiest to play, but I think they're very useful once you know what to do with them.

Another couple of good games in the bag - starting to get the hang of the Viks and her sisters............of blood and otherwise.

re Vanessa - having trouble getting the best from her as one of her most useful abilities is healing but we assumed she can only cast the spell if she is not actually injured and I tend not to have her at the front since I can't absorb damage for her via Soul Stones?

You can cast the heal, it just won't do anything for Vanessa.

no but at least one of the Viks is usually injured and so being able to heal one or both of them would be awesome

Exactly, that's why she's so wonderful. You can just pump out heals on herself which will then spread to the other ladies. With the howling wolf tattoo you can also heal Taelor/whoever else has it for one turn if you get your order of activation correct.
