No they can't take a Bosspole sadly.

And unless you plan on running a full 15 loota squad, it's better to use a loota-Mek than an HQ one (one point cheaper, and the HQ one can be used elsewhere.

Characters are always handy, more so if the unit is likely to be targeted, which Lootas are!

well, at least having the character in there ensures that they wont run off. I just dunno if I'd want to lose a Deffgun to get a normal Mek...IMO, I'd eat the cost and toss a slotless in if it were me. Losing those extra S7 shots would be too much of a blow D: I'd still have 2 more slotless Meks to toss into my other combat squads to eat challenges :p
If you're going for the full 15, then fair enough, the HQ Mek is the way forward.

But a lot of players run around 10. So 11 and convert one to a Mek is the better option in this case.

Fair enough :p

I'm mostly thinking in terms of the OP's plans, since he wanted to run a wagon with a maxed squad I think.

tbh,
Blitz brigade - I have been considering going with the wagons with killkannons on a couple, as I cant seem to find it reducing capacity. Then putting some more shooty units in them, like maybe a blob of shoota boys with painboy, some tankbustas or flash gitz.

Have any of you had experience running it? With the scout I imagine I can be in range turn 1 easily for shooting. How have people found they faired? did the wagons last long or just popped by the large amounts of multi melta about these days

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

I'm hoping to give it a test run this weekend, first time running the formation. I have a feeling it should fare...average. If you keep them on the board on deploy you can move up super quick with the scout move. If you keep em off board (Like I plan to do), then you end up popping up far too close for comfort, and they didn't have to weather a turn of gunfire.

The way I'd assume, it SHOULD be very difficult to pop 5 AV 14, 3 HP vehicles. Make sure each Wagon has a scarey threat, making them pick and choose what they need to pop so they can try to kill whatever is inside of it on their next turn. In the meantime, you're firing everything you've got out of the wagons. Deffguns potentially, Killkannons, etc.

*Though I'm more than certain the Killkannon still reduces capacity. I'll check my codex in a moment*

Edit: Under the Battlewagon's unit entry, under Transport Capacity: It lowers the capacity to 12 with a Kill Kannon.

Ah my bad, I realised I had meant you no longer need an ard case (if you needed one last dex I cant remember). Hmm maybe killkannons for the smaller units then. Do let us know how its fairs. I currently have 2 BWs with a couple conversions on their way but atm they aren't taking huge priority. If I have the time id like to quickly whip up a 5th

As scout means you cant charge that turn im thinking some reasonably decked out BWs maybe with a KFF bike. maybe even MFF bike would really give them some serious staying power. I mean you have 5 BW's, you've already paid a pretty hefty price for the formation at almost 600 pts, why not spend a few more on those Kannons and rokkits.

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

What about burna boyz? I always thought they would be great in a Battle wagon.

I still use lootas though they have there perks.

Burnas lost a bit of their steam in this edition. Burna Wagon Stars are not all they used to be. Especially since they are now vulnerable to template weapons in kind. I might run a Burna Wagon when I get my last few Wagons in the mail since I plan on trying to Blitz Brigade. A surprise, outflanking Burna Wagon could be vastly useful. But as for a Burna Wagon that needs to run up field first? I doubt it will make it D:

I don't understand why you are saying Burna Wagons have changed? Are you referring to changes in the Burna or the Wagon?

Insert inspiring text here.

For 7th edition, they changed the rules so that you can no longer allocate wounds beyond the range of the flame template.

Yep, that and a price increase for the Burna Boyz in the new codex. A double kick!
Still fun to use behind a promethium relay though

That and how vulnerable the Burnas are to a counter template, as Flamer weaponry now says "F You" to open topped vehicles. So Burna Wagons (Easy Bake Oven) only got overall worse, and more expensive.

True, but it works both ways.

I had a Burna Wagon drive up alongside a Raider full of Wyches. Oh how I laughed and laughed as they did the "burny dance".

Fair enough! Is fun ta watch da point ears do da burny dance!

I think I'd have been a little less hard on the Burna Wagon if I ever had the points/wagon to spare for them when I really wanted to field them. Now that I actually HAVE more wagons, I might give them more table time. If anything, they will more than likely distract gunfire. Or, if they can outflank close enough (if my rolls are so lucky), then they can almost guarantee their points.

They're not as good as they were. No denying that.
But they can still be effective, give them a try again

One way they might be of use: Blitz Brigade.
Having wagons charging forward is good, but their vulnerability has always been getting assaulted. Their weak rear armour being their Achilies Heal.
If your lead wagon is full of Burnas, not many people are going to want to charge that...

The formation is how I plan on running my Wagons now :p It gets to sloppy trying to get units into a dedicated vehicle they don't belong too :p And I don't like wasting my HS slots! Those belong to my Kanz! (As bad as they are, I love the models too much).

Plus, if I outflank with the wagons (Starting them in reserve), it should help keep their rear armor semi protected when they come off the table sides. If I decide to start them on table, might be useful like you said to konga line two wagons, with Burnas in the front to deter an assault.

I love my Kans as well! And Dreads!

I'm one Gorkanaut away from the Dreadmob Formation, which just sounds awesome fun to play. Thinking of adding Grukks formation, for more kans and a few Deep Striking suprises!

I'm crossing my fingers that I get a Gork/Morknaught for Christmas. I own a Mork as of now, but I want a second so badly. Our local playgroup is doing a secret Santa swap. We handed in our 5 most wanted models, and the lists were handed out at random. We then buy, assemble, and paint one of them for the person. I doubt anyone will spend 80+ dollars on me, but I'd have their babies if they did :I

I still need 1 more dread though to do the formation D:

Kanz just make me giddy. Last Apoc game, I fielded all 12 of them in their own units, each with Kustom Blasta and just ran around with two Dreads and the Naught following :p

Fingers crossed you get it!

I've got 3 units of 3 kans currently. One with x3 Kustom Blastas, x3 Rokkits, x3 Grotzookas.

Almost finished building my Morkanaut, as my army is Freebootas I had to stick a Pirate Hat on my Gorkanaut, which involved raising the head above the shoulders. But these things must be done...

I want a pic when it's done :p

I had a hell of a time building mine. I'm terrible at modeling to begin with. I messed up the positions of the legs, so he was all lop sided. So my buddy who is...BETTER than I am at modeling :p took it and painted it up, and then he posed him into a running stance, Klaw outstretched and reach to slice stuff up :p

Glad we're not the only Killa Kan nuts. We own fourteen at this point. :-p

My first 40k memory was falling in love with the Space Marine Dreadnought (both aesthetically and as a concept). I didn't pick up the hobby for years after that, but when I did... here are their much more fun, rickity cousins! Love at first sight!

if I had the money (or the insanity), I'd love to field an all Kan apoc army XD

Edit: Well, will Naughts and Stompas and stuff for bigger support of course

Plastikard mostly, cut to shape. The skull was cut from one of the Glyphs.
Rivets are a 2mm hexagonal styrene rod, sliced thinly. A 0.5mm rod was then glued on top. Fiddly work, but I like the effect.
