I need your guys help. I have been enjoy in WH40K for a while now, and I feel like I need a change of peace. While l liked the grand battles with my Chaos Space Marines, I always wanted a smaller scale squad tactics game. I'm looking for a game where the squads of 3 to 5 of infantry skirmishes. Hopefully something thats has more presonal cutomization (at least more than a five man squad of the the same generic soldier) and more indepth combat. If you could recommend something like that or at least point me in the right derction, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'd point out, as always, Victory Decision: Future Combat. I'd say it aims at slightly smaller games than the big-to-apocalypse stuff that GW goes for these days. It's purposely generic to accommodate as many sci-fi minis as possible, but gives you a few lists and quite a few options and customisations to choose from. Combat has fewer steps or crunch than 40K, but as the linked page and the further designer's notes mention, there are more tactical considerations and options for combat, relating to the larger game. I'd recommend reading those notes, reviews, and the link to the ViDe board on the LAF, for a more in-depth appraisal of the game.
There's two ebooks so far: The main rulebook with three human/humanoid lists, and Rival Species, an expansion for xenomorphs, tyranids, SST arachnids, and similar bioengineered hivemind 'bugs'. There's a robots expansion in the pipeline too. Also, tweaks and additions to the rules have so far been free for previous customers - we've just needed to download the book again from our Wargame Vault accounts.

I am prejudiced but I keep going back to my old favorite:
Battletech
Been around since 1984 (30 years!)
Most games are from one model to a "lance" of 4 mechs for combat with hex or normal tabletop movement.
There are extended rules for full mech customization as well.
http://www.battletech.com/Main link to get you going of the "universe" in general.
http://bg.battletech.com/Boardgame
http://www.masterunitlist.info/The absolutely HUGE list of all units and army list creation (good for "Alphastrike" larger battles).
http://ironwindmetals.com/d/The one-stop list/shop of all the models out there.
http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/battletech-c-1/Ral Partha / FASA is the original standard, some interesting stuff here.
http://www.solaris7.com/Files/Downloads/?Action=FileList&CategoryID=959Good list of battlemech designers (can print standard record sheets as well).
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTechThe ultimate Wiki for the universe.
http://www.fasagames.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=77_78_79&products_id=760Would suggest this for the rulebook to get.
Anyway, the good thing is, it can be taught readily for a pick-up game so it plays with others well enough.

Its a hair more then 3-5 man, but Infinity is a great skirmish game.
You can play smaller games at 3-5, but tournaments range from 10-20 models tops.
There are some squads, but you don't have to take them in squads or move them as one.
You can pop up to our forum anytime if you have questions.

NM brings up a point: do you mean a game with 3-5 figs, or a game with squads of 3-5 figs?

Sorry, my bad. I meant 3 to 5 squads with made up of varying number of models.

Ah. Well in that case I still say give Victory Decision a spin with your CSMs. I'm as prejudiced as Talizvar.

I think the answer for you is to get hold of a copy of Rogue Trader. That is to say 1st edition 40K, it will be basically compatible with your current miniatures so you need no investment beyond the rulebook and yet the game has a skirmish feel. If nothing else its a great read but you can also take a dozen or so CSM from your collection and fight select models from others armies.
.
There are a lot of skirmish games out there, but its not a bad idea really to stick with what you have already got and like
After all once you have a copy of Rogue Trader you have a piece of 40K history, and there is still nothing to stop you buying Infinity and a selection of troops for it, or another skirmish game, because all you have invested is some spare cash on an auction site for a book, and havent yet had to invest in a new game with models etc..
If you choose to buy Rogue Trader, be patient, sometimes it sells for outrageous sums, sometimes it drift through auctions at a low starting price and no bids. There isn't a st value for stuff like that.

If you're a pulp fan, I've been looking over Counterblast after backing their kickstarter. It seems like it wouldn't be too hard to use 40k stuff, especially as GDF or Lancer crews. I haven't tried it out yet, so I can't speak to how well it plays, but it seems pretty straightforward.
