Any fellow skiers or boarders here?
I'm days away from the season opener here.
Got my alpine and tele skis to prep.
And a season pass to purchase.

Finally the cold snap seems to have set in.
Not a minute to soon. I started wondering if the season was gonna be a bust?
Fethin warm temps.. :p

Anyhoo happy season Dakkanauts.

I was just this morning explaining to my son what the lift tag on my jacket was. And realizing that the last time I was skiing was at Okemo Mt. (Vermont) in 2009. I’d love to get more slope time in, but even with all the hardware, the lift tickets are not cheep. But I do enjoy skiing, and have been doing so off and on my whole life.

For those who can, enjoy the snow!

Used to be a huge boarder. We're talking 60+ outings per season. Used to instruct with a few different qualifications.

Unfortunately, I've spent the last three winters in the prairies (biggest hills are the river valleys), and now I'm on the east coast with a very small selection of poor hills, only compounded by a total absence of any board shops to replace my aging collection.

I'm hoping to get a few weekends in this year anyways. The hill closest to me should be open by January, which should give me enough time to scrounge around for a shop to buy a new board, bindings, and boots at.

Never thought I'd say this, but man, sometimes I miss Ontario.

Sadly, there is rather a lack of snow around here. We've been having a rather mild winter here in western Canada.

My local slopes open next week.
So going to work on my skis and my knees. Getting the brace for my knee fitted properly. Still skiing despite a busted up knee. Need something to do during the winter other than gaming.
I'm skiing with what is basically a knee with no properly functioning tendons and ligaments.
So it is a challenge at times.
But far too much fun to let pass.
If I fall and bust up my knee it will be surgery next. Without a doubt.
But that kind of worrying is no good.
So hence the brace.

I went the day after thanksgiving (nov 28th, I believe for our non-US friends). It was great to get back out. As long as it's not in the negatives, I'm going the day after Xmas as well. I don't have time to go as often as I'd like, but I get to 2-4 times a year.

It's amazing. Seriously, I'm glad my family took the effort to get me into it. It's something we share together, that I don't do with my buddies (not for lack of trying).

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Not a great deal of snow around here...

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I haven;t been for about a decade. I miss it.

I still have all the gear, but time and cost hold me back.

Someday, probably when my kid is a few years older.
