Seriously, I started playing as a teen with 2nd edition. I had the boxed set that had the uniform SM and Orks, bought some more marine vehicles and Ork stuff and played for a couple years...then put it away and went to college.

Fast forward to late 2013. I dig out my old miniatures and pick up the 6th edition BRB, SM codex, and Sentinels of Terra. I strip my marines and paint up an Imperial Fists 3rd company force and enter into some tournaments at my FLGS. Losing all the way.

Now here we are, December 2014...I have a full Sentinels of Terra army, a fully functional and autonomous Inquisition army, an adaptable Militarum Tempestus CAD /Airbourne Assault Formation army, a Alien-id army (Hive Fleet Nostromo) of fully green stuff converted Xenomorph Genestealers and Broodlords with Deathleaper "Queen", nearly 3000 points of Orks (including a Stompa) that I keep postponing building (I LOVE them most of all, I don't know why I'm delaying), and all the makings of a Wych Cult / Kabal high speed raiding force (I never intended to get into this one, but here we are). Oh, not to mention 15 odd ancient metal Legion of the Damned soaking in simple green so I can recreate the "Defending the Phalanx" battles.

I think I need help. Is there a 12 step program for "I can't stop building 40K armies"?

Ebay is a curse...Oh, I don't have the flat-top hat Inquisitor with THAT pistol...I can use that one instead of the Inferno Pistol...and it's only $3.00 bid...bid...bid..ARRRRGGGG

It's how I ended up with the Dark Eldar. Everyone hates the Wyches so much right now, the Shardstorm box can be had for a song...and I LOVE playing armies every says are unplayable. No Tau or Wave Serpents for me

If you can pay the bills to keep a roof over your head, and operate within your wife’s tolerances, it’s all good. Sure, it’s an expensive hobby, but it’s not unique in that.

Aye, enthusiasm is what we call it, not a problem... I started my 7th Space Marine army the other day entirely by accident, as one Raven Guard test mini became a Tactical Squad became 2 Troops and a HQ in the space of a few hours and some bits box digging! And that's considering I've never solid a 40k mini in my life, so I still own all of my other 8 armies.

But the cost isn't high over time, I dont have that many other hobbies that cost a lot (writing and reading remain cheap) so the only detriment is the piles of minis that are rapidly running out of shelf space.

Hah! Yeah, all things are relative. As I've said before, I buy a nice bottle of wine to share with my wife, and that's more than several boxes of miniatures And if I splurge on a new putter or pair of skis... well, that's a price of new army LOL.

I don't really feel "guilty" about accumulating unpainted miniatures, because I do go back and paint old stuff, even when I've had them a long time unpainted. For instance, I'm painting Dark Eldar that I bought when they launched. I'm sure I paid less for them back then, than they would be today. And more importantly, I was very happy collecting them I'm happy that I have DE grotesques, because, evidently, they're hard to get hold of now. I might not ever complete a playable DE army (I hope I do), but it will be a fun journey getting there.
