I'm not sure there's any official date, but I've seen some sites list it as releasing in early 2015 for the core set and first wave.

It is listed for Mid January last I checked a couple weeks ago, however I agree with above February-March would be a better bet.

Off topic a bit here but what ships are people hoping to see released?
Me I love to see a super star destroyer, bothan assault cruiser and the new republic's star destroyer which name I'm forgetting at the moment.

Assuming they stick to the same scale a Super Star Destroyer model would have to be about 2 meters long. I suppose they could scale it down, but then again they would need some sort of Rebel equivalent to balance the game and nothing like that exists in the background. Also I think FFG’s license only covers the timeframe and EU of the original trilogy so I wouldn’t hold your breath for any new republic stuff. Incidentally for those of us in the UK Amazon have the core set on pre-order for £46. That’s with a price guarantee so even if it goes up before release you’ll still only pay £46. I’ve just pre ordered mine.

But isn't Kyle katarn and ig-88 expanded universe as well as the star viper that they are about to release for x-wing. So there maybe some hope for EU ships.

Oh yes, but it has to be the original trilogy EU, meaning nothing pre A New Hope or post Return of the Jedi.
So Kyle Katarn and IG88 are OK, but the new Republic is off limits.

But isn't baron fel and tycho also post return as well? I remember Tycho from the x-wing series and baron fel was in the thrawn trilogy too right? I could see your logic with the star viper and other shadow of the empire ships due to many consider it canon. Just my opinion sorry if I come across as a ass

The E-Wing is New Republic-era. it saw its first action against Thrawn, roughly 9 ABY.

Nothing is off-limits, FFG just focuses on certain time-frames at the moment.

Galactic Civil War is the rough restriction. So, anything up to Pelleion(butchered that spelling) signing the cease-fire would be fair game. Only a bit of the armada stuff is even at the printer, the expansions are all 'in development' still. When they go 'on the boat' it is 4 to 6 weeks from then till they are available. mid February would require them to get going between now and the 14th. Judging by the latest x wing release it will probably go into march. The xwing 'scum and villainy' was slated for Q4 last year and has only just went 'on the boat'.

Armada looks really interesting, but two things have me in wait and see mode.
The initial price point doesn't. I'm fine with 99.00 for initial buy.
1) If the scale in regards to Initial buy in to expenditures required to stay SotA is the same as with x-wing, that could get pricey quick. One thing i notice about X-wing is that the "initial buy in" is a little misleading. You really do sorta need 2 core sets to play anything more than the most rudimentary game, and even if you have no intention of using a particular ship, it probably has upgrade cards you want. All well and good to print them off the net, but if you want to tourney play or actually like having things, there's some stealth buy-in required. Not a complaint, just an observation. So if the scale of buy in to SotA is the same as xwing, this game could get pricey quickly.
2) Time to play a game. 2 hours ? Yikes. This is not a game i will have time to play all that often, which is fine, but if the SotA cost as mentioned above is big and its a game that will compete with Warhammer Fantasy in terms of "i have x hours, i can only play one of these game", that's another mark against it.
So i'm in wait and see mode. it looks super cool, i'll probably pick up a starter, but i doubt i'll be keeping state of the art with it.

I've preordered the starter set from Amazon (had a voucher).
I was doing a bit of reading on it and watched the TeamCovenant demo. From my understanding, the starter set is about 1/3rd of the normal game size. - At least as far as VSD's are concerned.
Anyone got more details on that?

You won`t need as much blisters as with X-Wing and one starter is enough.

That is not true. According to statements from FFG's game designers, they are not limited to the original trilogy or the EU in that time frame. For X-Wing, FFG chose the setting of the Rebellion era "going way forward". Armada appears to be set during the same era.
For X-Wing, FFG has not ruled out the possibility of including ships from the Rebels TV show era (a few years before A New Hope).
My sources for this info are published interviews with the game designers (both in print and video) during 2014.

You seem to have the inside scoop on this game.
Is it true that i'll need 2-3 Victory Class Star Destroyers to play a "standard" sized game ? How many capital class rebel ships does that equate to ?
Cuz if so, then that's 2 starters, or a starter and then 1-2 capital ship blisters for imperials, and then X number of blisters for rebels, and then i'm sure the squadrons count increases too as well which is yet more blisters.
I guess, what is my buy-in looking like to have enough ships to play a standard sized game? It's appearing to be about 200 bucks or so from what i can tell. Which isn't awful, but that's a fairly high buy in for a game that competes with tabletop skirmish and army games in terms of play time required to play, cost., etc.
Fair being fair, i've probably spend about 60% of that on X-wing so far, and i'm still only up to being able to play 75 point games at this point. However with one more rebel and imperial ship i could hit 100 no problem. So i'll be at about 75% of the initial buy in to get to typical sized games, give or take.

As with X-wing it depends completely on your playing style and as with X-wing you get problems when only playing with the big boys and when you ignore the smaller supports and fighters.
From what I know the starter is approx 1/3 of the standard game, which is quite close to X-Wing which also had 1/3 for each faction.
With one blister of each you are on the sure side and the rest is just your taste or playing style. And that´s the way I suggest. Get to know the game, check which kind of ships suit your style and from there on buy the rest.
