Ultramarine Librarian with Freaky Familiar
|
As per title. I'm against Bikes or allying with anything other than IG, I don't have any other up-to-date codexes! So, my initial plan:
Calgar in TDA
Librarian in TDA, rolling on Biomancy
5 Honour Guard with Chapter Banner in Drop Pod
IG Priest
or a variant replacing the Honour Guard with Assault Termies with TH/SS and a Land Raider Crusader.
Thoughts?

The best one from a competitive standpoint is the Centurionstar. Tigurius, 4-6 Centurions with Grav Cannons/Amps and Missiles, and an Omni-scope. Roll on Divination for Prescience, and then go fishing for other powers of your choice with his rerollable power.

Don't bother with the missiles its pure overkill at that point, and the 36 twin linked bolter shots isn't bad.
Roll all of tiggys powers on divination, auto get prescience, you're going for the 4++, and ignores cover.
Putting them in a bunkerpult is a good way to get them in the action. That's a imperial bunker with an escape hatch. You can add a voidshield to it as well for protection. Launches the squad 18" and gets you in range of pretty much anything you want.
Alternatively you can try for invisibility, but it makes people get boo boo stink faced.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

I'm a big fan of the 6 Stormtalons on the table Turn 1 all flying around over a Land Raider. That's the Tyrannic War Veteran Dataslate. Cassius, as many Tyrannic Vets as you like with Land Raider dedicated transport (no drop pods), and up to six Stormtalons with Infiltrate. Not exactly a Death Star but very effective since each Talon is independent, can be equipped however you like and gives Ignores Cover to the Vets and their Poisoned 2+ ammo.

I love how you call it Tactical Dreadnought Armour.
But yeah for smurfs it's generally calgar amd honour guard sat in a landraider crusader.
Don't know too many of the dataslates but I know some are pretty good to build around.

Going back to your OP, Honour Guard in LR are very killy, and with a Librarian to buff them they can be positively lethal. That said, I'd not take any TDA in the unit as you want to be able to Sweep after you've charged. Calgar doesn't have this issue as the AoA allows you to SA, but the Librarian would slow you down. Keep him in PA and it should be easy enough to stop him getting hit.
I'd drop the Priest as I don't like the idea of a grubby human riding with the best of the Ultramarines, but that's just preference.
Put them in a LRC for best results, it synergises with their role better even if you don't use all the transport slots.

Invisibility is much more valuable then prescience when you are putting out enough shots that you are probably going to overkill. If not, use storm of fire.
The missile launchers have done well for me on the cents, giving them something to do from the start line.
Tigurius and centurions are the standard way to go with the ultramarines chapter tactics. I personally add coteaz and another inquisitor for some more psychic powers, but Draigo seems to be the new in flavour.
Calgar and th/ss terminators are not bad, though you'd get a th/se/aa chapter master for cheaper, and could add a cheap chaplain for the reroll.
7 th/ss termies, above cm and chaplain in a land raider crusader can ruin a few days.

The only spiritual advisor young Calgar needs is Cassius.

You absolutely do not want to sweep anything if you are using Honor Guard. The plasma to the side will destroy them all, leaving Calgar standing around holding his mechanical manhood.
Sweeping means you get shot to bits on their turn.
Kill them in two rounds of combat, and then move on to the next unit. Sweeping is for chumps.
