Howdy, Dakkanauts. Today I had a tough skirmish with Eldars. That game was a part of our campaign, so it was meant to be more about fun than about competitiveness.
Well, the fluent background. During the escalation of an Orks vs Eldar conflict a deserted island with some jungle spots became hot spot. Both sides desperately want to take it over and no one will accept a defeat.

Alright, here are the forces:
Orks
Spoiler:

Boss Skullkan (MA Boss w/ DLS and CybBody)
with 18xShootaboys (including a BChoppa Nob) in a Wagon w/ Ram&BShoota

Snikjaw Da Painboss (identical to Grotsnik)
with 4xMANz (1 pair of Killsaws) in a Wagon w/ Killkannon & Ram

Wazbad (Mek w/ HArmor, SAG, Bosspole & Gitfinda)
with 12xLootas

2x12 Choppaboyz led by PKlaw Nobz, riding Trukks w/ Rams

and a lone Kopta

Eldars
Spoiler:

Kineath, Farseer of Ulthwe (Farseer w/ Stone of Anathlan homerule spear)
with 8xDire Avengers in a Serpent w/ Scatter Lasers

Fairagal, Spiritseer of Ulthwe (vanilla spiritseer)
with 5xWraithguards w/ Wraithcannons in a Serpent w/ Scatter Lasers

8xDire Avengers in a Serpent w/ Scatter Lasers

5xWraithguards w/ D-Scythes in a Serpent w/ Scatter Lasers

2x5 Warpspiders

That was going to be a hard battle for orkses, so many dakka.. Uh!

Rolling warlord traits.. Can't recall what were they, but they definitely helped in no way.
Here is the battlefield:

I was going second.
So, turn first both of my trukks went BOOM! to the massive shooting of the Serpents. Both boy mobs passed their LD tests successfully.
Orks try to reach the enemy and chop 'em, so both Wagons ride ahead. Lootas and Da Mek try to shred a Serpent but in vain - their deffguns left it with a single hullpoint, and the SAG didn't roll high enough strength to hurt it.

Turn two every a vile trick did the Eldar play. Wraithguard serpents moved forward and the passengers disembarked.
"Oi, Dok, dat flying things are too far to shoot at... Gork's ass, such fast, shii..."
Wraithcannons wrecked the Wagon. And R.I.P. MANz, you all went down to D-Scythes. Only Snickjaw managed to stay away of their range.
And all the Serpents' dakka went to the lootas, who lost a lot of models. What's more, another unit os Warpspiders enters the board and shoot at poor lootas.

But now it's Orks' turn! 'ere We Go!
Shootaboys with the Boss himself disembark and move towards dat tremblin' Warpspiders.
The choppaboys which were closer to lootas look at 5 Warpspiders and lick their lips imagining how they will chop 'em.
The other squad of Choppaboys is in doubt whether offence is worth it, but suddenly a reinforcement comes - Snikjaw joins them!
Time to assault!
Boss and his guys successfully charged their target and despite loosing a couple of boys to the overwatch, dispatch them, consolidating into the forest.
The boys without Da Painboss ran into the Warpspiders and in two assault phases killed them. After the last Warpspider was slain, only a Nob and his friend was alive.
And Snickjaw along with his mob charged the Wraithguards. What an unpleasant thing fo Fairagal was to hear:"I dare you! I doubledare you, fairie!"
As it goes, by a single blow Fairagal was IDed, and the boys finished the work.

And the following turn I lost Skullkan. D-Scythes mowed down both him and his entire mob. That was a terrible hit to me, as he was expected to bring a rapetrain upon the opponent. I understood that I was going to lose this game, so the only goal was to earn as many killpoints as I could.

Serpents kept on killing lootas and finally they wiped out both them and the Mek. The last Wagon also fell victim of their serpent shields. Dire Anengers disembarked and Kineath successfully cast invisibility on his unit.
The boys with Da Painboss finished the Wraithguards and mowed closer to Kineath's squad.
In my turn these guys manage to multicharge both Dire Avengers' squads. Invisibility was a tough nut to crack.
Another challenge.
-Behold me, vile creature, I defy you! Let the wrath of Khaine fall upon thee!
-Haha, dat's a deal! Uh, where are u?
Two full turns did the skirmish last. The Avengers were dying, but every turn they were taking a lot of boys with them.
Kineath's strikes were dangerous, but for saves and FnP the Dok was about to die. Thanks for Rampage, he finally managed to overcome invisibility and invul and kill the Farseer.

As the fight was on, the Kopta and the last two boys of the other squad took away 2 Serpents. Pilots of the other 2 ones got enraged and open fire at them, turning the greenskinz into mushy paste.

Finally wiping out Avengers, the last 2 boys and Snikjaw mowed towards one of the Serpents to try and wreck them. However, the skimmer easily flew over them, leaving them in the open field.

-Where did dat thing flew? - shouted the Nob and all three greenskins started to look around, trying to find it. Suddenly, tall figures appeared from the forest, mowing silently and menacingly. Without a sound they raised their strange weapons and the spurts of warp energy flew out towards the orks. The last thing they saw were white emblems of Ulthwe.

Ork's onslaught was stopped and the island was overtaken by Ulthwe forces.

I can definitely say that the game was interesting and exciting. Serpents appeared to be a great tool for skilled hands, and D-Scythes totally murder everyone they reach. Also, Avengers were good and insisibility made them even more a menace. I definitely loved the opponents list and tactics.
As for orks, Dok was the star, buffing his squad and wrecking faces. Simple boys are also good, they pack a solid punch.
SAG mek was a great disappointment. Perhaps it's the matter of eiter my poor tactics or the opponent's list, but he did totally nothing except LD8. Not sure whether I will take him anymore.
Lootas were mediocre - yes, they gave nice shots, but I expected them to take down a Serpent each turn. Maybe it was also my fault.

That's it, thank you for reading. Feel free to give advice and point at flaws in tactics!

Not much you can do on such a map vs eldar, really. You need solid blos to have chances. Otherwise, it's a shooting gallery. Which they excel at.

That's exactly the thing I was thinking about. Alas, there were no suitable hills or other LOSblocks, and buildings were odd to a mission.
But you're right, I will do something about it.

The only thing i've found out about playing on the open ground with orkses is that stuff like stormboyz and trucks won't do much vs shooty stuff especially if the opponent gets 1-st turn. So, reserving them is an option. But yep, you're at emidiate disadvantage on such maps.
