So this great battle report channel named Tabletop Tactics https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_KbSd9fby8UeLU7M6eXeRQ
Reviewed my Thousand Sons list and the guy came up with this:

Prodigal Sons 1850 Points:

Ahriman (Warlord)
8 Thousand Sons- Melta Bombs, Rhino (Ahriman)
9 Thousand Sons- Melta Bombs, Rhino
9 Thousand Sons- Melta Bombs, Rhino
Helbrute- TL Lascannon
Helbrute- TL Lascannon
Helbrute- TL Lascannon
Chaos Predator- TL Lascannon, Lascannon Sponsons
Chaos Predator- TL Lascannon, Lascannon Sponsons
Chaos Predator- TL Lascannon, Lascannon Sponsons

Its a laser army. Helbrutes march up the board. For a long time I've been looking for some complicated secret to playing Thousand Sons well, but maybe its just as simple as lots of Lascannons. Thoughts?

Lascannon-tank platforms has been a staple for the Thousand Sons as far back as I can recall in 3rd edition to overcompensate for the limited role from the infantry. The only downside is the lack of variety in the choices, but they would all be complementary in function to serve as an armoured gunline. I bought three of the FW Dreadnought kits (chasis, pair of CCW, Lascannon/Missile launcher arms) years ago, but never incorporated them into my army due to the Crazed special rule. I would suggest having one close combat Dreadnought with Heavy flamers to handle hordes, and spending the excess points on Daemonic Possession.

Demonic possession on the predators?

EDIT: And how would this CC Helbrute make it to combat without dying?

Yes, Daemonic Possession on a Predator.

The CC Dreadnought is acting as your rearguard and can advance behind a Predator gunline.

I remember nearly a year ago, some fool made a Thousand Sons' list with 3 drakes insisting that he needed more AP3!!!

I was suggesting to him that he really needed anti tank in the form of las cannon predators.

He argued with me.

If the predators are advancing they can only fire one gun at full BS! Not sure how I feel about that. Also, how likely are the predators to be penned if I put them in back in cover? I feel daemonic possession is only really useful on short range vehicles like vindicators. Why do you think it is good on predators?

Thanks!

Perhaps consider a forgefiend rather than a hellbrute to fill the roll of close combat, and tank popping at the same time? And they are fast.

Maulerfiends are definitely better combat choices than CC Helbrutes. The consideration for the CC Helbrute was the points saved to provide additional upgrades elsewhere (such as the Daemonic Possession to a Predator).

Predators aren't ideal to scoot-and-shoot with side sponsons. Primarily, you would leap frog them to provide "hull down" cover as you rotate Smoke Launchers. The Daemonic Possession would allow you to continue shooting after "tanking" the shots (obviously for one Predator).

The -1 Bs from Daemonic possession makes it a bad choice for Predators.

As soon as this list goes against an army with numbers (Orks, Nids) it's going to struggle. A single heavy flamer Helbrute won't help much.

It may be not be ideal on a Predator to have BS3, but I consider the ability to shoot better than not shooting at all for the few turns a Predator is functional. The same general strategy for Vindicators apply: An opponent will either focus fire one Predator a turn until it's dead, or simply cause one Shaken result to deny your shots.

A similar list using double CAD:

Ahriman
9x Thousand Sons (Meltabombs) w/ Rhino
9x Thousand Sons (Meltabombs) w/ Rhino

Predator w/ Lascannons
Predator w/ Lascannons
Predator w/ Lascannons

Sorcerer ML3 w/ Spell Familiar, Meltabombs
10x Chaos Cultists
10x Chaos Cultists
Vindicator w/ Daemonic possession
Vindicator w/ Daemonic possession
Vindicator w/ Daemonic possession

The Meltabombs (3) can be swapped for MoT for the Sorcerer.
