Subject: Thoughts on Running New BA as a Drop Pod Army

Hey mates. Looking to jump back into 40k after taking a breather from it and I have been hearing a lot of good things about the BA's and how they have a lot of things going for them in there favor. Not 100% certain on what there Supplement Codex's have for lists, however from there basic book I have been hearing how Assault Marines can basically have 4x Melta's in a single squad and that there Tac Squads have access to Heavy Flamers, making them ideal for a Drop Pod army to go with there Furiouso Dreadnoughts, Death Company, etc. That being said, do you feel that a BA Drop Pod Army would be effective? Or would I be best suited to use the Standard SM Codex or another Supplement book for that Idea, such as the Sentinels of Terra or the Iron Hands?

I just posted an army in the army list section called 'Blood and Fire', based on exactly this idea. Have a look. It might not be perfect. It's just a starting point.

Not bad, however I am looking to just keep it under one Army Book and not use any detachment from others to keep thins simple to start.

Makes sense. My generic advice to you would be, give each squad a dedicated role.
Keep your HQs cheap.
I'd recommend the following setup (approximately) assume pods.
2 sanguine preists or 1 and 1 librarian
2-3 tacticals (10 man) with flamer, heavy flamer and sarge with 2 hand flamers.
2-3 assaults (5 man) with 2 meltaguns and a inferno pistol.
Command squads are alright, take 3 specials.
Predators are useful when fast get a Baal with heavy bolters for infantry and a tri las for armour.
I don't do dreads but if you want to, do it.
It's easy to get carried away with options in this codex.

I personally think BA are a poor drop pod list, but that's just me. The SW are infinitely better at that trick.

Im pretty sure they are, however I heard that BA's could actually make a pretty effective Drop Pod list with access to a lot of Melta's and Flamers, not to mention all the Assault Marines they can use to Deep Strike in as well with it. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are and if anyone has tested the BA's out as a Drop Pod list.

For me I saw the basic rules (without the codex) and instantly thought 'drop-pod army'.
If that doesn't say potential what does?
I'd also like to go out on a limb here and say jump packs.
Give everyone mobility with the weapons.
They can have so many special weapons.
You can get 4 flamer templates for a 10 man tactical squad (or 3 for a 5).
You can get 3 meltas (1 pistol) in a 5 man assault squad
You can have 3 command squads with 3 specials and feel no pain.
You're averaging a special weapon per ever 2-3 people (i think).
So yeah, I think they're an amazing drop-pod army.
I don't think people conventionally play them that way though, and they're new, so it might take some time for a net-list to develop.
Maybe I'm way off but I see this as their primary build in the future.
Then again when the Tau codex came out I was all like Farsight bomb for the win, Lots of people at the time were like err no. I think it's still pretty well known.
Obviously its my opinion and conjecture but it seems like the obvious option.
Doesn't make me put a lot of stock in codex writing though, when there are such blatantly better options.

I'm pretty sure Angel's Fury + Augur Triangulation Drop Pods will be a popular choice. Null deployment, T1 charging drop pods can wreck the day against a lot of armies.
