Just a little bit of a social experiment, can you crack this code:
OFBeBeBSi VFCaOFSi BTiBArMn VPArBe
two tips:
1. look at a periodic table, specifically the numbers.
2. It's simpler than you think.

I see what you did there...
but no, a songbird will protect you.

do we need more clues?
the letters I've given represent elements. those elements don't matter, but their atomic number as well as the alphabet do.

Atomic numbers of the first few are 8, 6, 4, 4, 5, which directly would be H, F, D,D, E, I've not got a period table to hand do go further.

Pretty straightforward with your hints - without them, it might surely take longer.

and we have a winner.
yeah, unfortunately I'm an impatient egotist and wanted someone to figure it out. the next one won't be so straight foreword (won't have as many hints:\)
and might involve advanced physics.

If it is "translate periodic element # to corresponding letter of the alphabet", then it's probably pretty easy... finding someone actually motivated enough to do it is the real tricky thing though. Maybe that's the social experiment aspect though, because otherwise it doesn't sound like much of an experiment.

*EDIT*

Oh, someone did so before I even posted this.

So what's the goal here? If you're wanting to look into crypto, you're kind of making it a little easy.

If we're just having fun though, by all means, continue. I was just wondering if there was a higher purpose.

Ok, not looking at the thread my take:
Spoiler:

looked first for first letters of the elepments but too simple, however as each leement is numbered no ghigher than 25 its a straight letter substitute code for the number on the periodic table.

Which are:

8 9 4 4 5 14 23 9 20 8 9 14 5 22 5 18 25 23 15 18 4

Would then translate but abiove posts already asays you have a winner so.

The hints were too big a clue.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

He has a large table of elements to draw from. What he should have done was truncate the spaces, convert to caeser cypher, then randomly apply a coefficient to each number of 1-4 that way he could get all the way up to element 104.

Still easily decipherable, but a much greater range of valid elements. You could also obfuscate duplicate letters by changing the coefficient as appropriate to eliminate vowels being easy to recognize.

It's a pop culture reference from this movie:

The main protagonist, a young boy in the 1950s, saves box tops or the like and sends them in for a decoder ring only to discover that the secret message is an advertisement for ovaltine.

Edit:

I suppose it just goes to show that there are many types of social experiments...

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do
