I was just wondering if many people use flyers in 1000pt matches and if so would it be worth taking flakk missiles?

Flyers are great in 1000 point games, so you need AA. Flak missiles are useless at every point level.

Indeed, Flakks are pretty awful. Though I am partial to the Aegis's Quadgun but that is just me.

I wish I had some actual AA in the 1k point game I played the other day when a tyranid player took a hive crone. Was a real PITA.

Be grateful he didn't take 2 or even 3 flyrants (each puts out 12 S6 shots twin linked + Psychic shooting).
Aegis quad gun is cool but can only snap fire at ground targets. Really you want your AA to be great at anti air but also pretty good at anti ground. Incase your opponent doesn't bring any fliers.

Because they cost a lot of points and have very little chance of damaging the flyers you care about. A single STR 7 shot just isn't enough to matter against AV 12, especially when it means committing an entire unit to shooting at the flyer and wasting all of their other guns.

I use flakk often, but i play Fists and they are pretty decent with the Tank Hunters Chapter Tactic. Flyrants are toughness 6 so they wound them on 3's. Flyers are AV 10-12, still a 33% chance to glance/pen.

You are correct about IF having the best flak missiles around....but S7 AP4 against T6 3+ save is just abysmal. Even a 4 flakk missile devastator squad (170 points....ouch) only has about a 60% chance of doing a single wound.
Wtnind is correct. Back when an aegis flakk cannon could fire at ground targets at full BS it was great....now it's only good against flyers. You want something that can engage flyers effectively and not be useless when you opponent doesn't bring flyers, they are off the board, and/or are all dead.
Flakk missiles fail the first part...it's not good enough at engaging flyers for the points you pay.
Flakk guns on fortifications fails the second part. It crap when you opponent brings no flyers or skimmers.
For space marines it basically leaves vehicles with the legacy that allows AA fire, massed twin-linked firepower, Storm Ravens and Storm Talons.

The problem is the only solid counter to flyers is your own flyers now that Skyfire prevents you from shooting at the ground at full BS. Automatically Appended Next Post: In a low point game the best counter is to try to remove his ground forces ASAP then avoid being tabled while scoring some points.

I think if you face mechanise Tau, Eldar, Quadgun on ADL or Hunter tank can still be decent, as they can still shoot skimmers at full BS, and these Xenos' vehicles are all skimmers

Flakk is overpriced, its good, but costs too much for what it does. Most 1000 point games have a flyer in, and if you are taking an ADL, definitely get the quad gun. stick someone with BS4 on it, and then you have an amazing anti-air gun.
Now if your opponents don't take a flyer, that's 50 points wasted against most imperial armies. But most of the xenos armies have large amounts of skimmers, so the quad gun is the amazing at taking those out, since skimmers tend to have worse armour.

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

At 1000, taking flyers is kinda rough. But Flank isn't much better than Krak or Lascannons against the tougher flying threats.

Depends on what yourlocal meta is like. Saying that, I don't think Flakk missiles are ever the best option.

Right? I think even 1 Flyrant would have been too much IMO, even if I had taken 1 Vendetta Gunship, unless I got the first round of shots off at the flyrant I wouldn't have a chance to take it down before it would take me down just because it can easily fly up behind it and hit rear armor. gaks rough.

Honestly even a quad gun is pretty bad unless you have Tank Hunter (AM can get this via orders).
