Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test Match, when all Australians fire up the barbie, thrown on some snags, crack open a stubbie and watch the Aussies smash boundaries all day.

If the queen mum still appears on your currency, the day after christmas is a national holiday as well (usually).
In Canada it became a way to extend the shopping terror. think black friday after christmas, so most stores can liquidate stock before inventory in the new year.

Boxing Day is pretty much a Commonwealth thing only.

It started as a feast to celebrate the completion of the genocide of the Pequot Indian tribe. Somehow, over time it turned into "the pilgrims and Indians sat down, ate together and made peace." That's what we do with holidays in this country. Kind of like how xmas was a celebration of the winter solstice with pagan rituals for 10,000+ years until some Catholic priest said "we celebrate xmas for Jesus' birthday". Now people actually think that's what xmas is about despite the fact that his birthday was in Feb or March and people celebrated winter solstice with similar traditions for thousands of years before Christianity was even a religion.

I didn't realise you didn't have Boxing Day in the US haha. It's just a bank holiday on the 26th December.
