This is my finished Captain Karlaen. I just started painting and modeling in July, he is my second complete figure. Now that I have large images of him, I can see a lot of details that I missed, so I may go back and touch him up.

Looks good from what I can see. The paint looks a bit thick and the basing could definitely use some work, but overall you've done a solid job!

Yeah, I need to thin my paints out, as that is a common comment that I get in regards to my models. As for the base, I may disconnect him from his base and completely redo that part. There is a rock in the back (behind his leg), but I might make more changes.

Pretty good work!
On a model like this, the head is one of the more important centerpieces, and I think you nailed that. Perhaps a bright red or green spot over the bionic eye to make it pop.

I my experience, Karlaen look much better if you use a more scenic basing to tilt the whole model slightly backwards to match the heroic poses in the artwork.

Good point on the eye. I might throw a nice blue spot on it. Would match the Terminator armor targeter too.

Drilling out the Storm Bolter (that's a Storm Bolter, right?) barrels would be my suggestion.

Yup. That is a storm bolter. I haven't done that on any of my models, but I agree, it looks nicer. Time to get out the ol' pin vise!

The blood drop could do with a gem effect, also i would look at highlighting thw white on the storm bolter. Apart from that pretty solid nice work.

good work for beginner standard. work on little things like the consistency of your paint, using inks and shades, and working up your highlights by layering and edge highlighting. it looks like youve used a pinky red to highlight here? i'd suggest trying a more orange highlight scheme. i always highlight red armour by lightening the red with yellows. i find it looks a lot more effective than highlighting with pink.

He uses Mephiston Red base, Crimson shade, and Evil Suns Scarlet for the reds.

For your second completed model that's some good work there, sir.
Funnily enough I am halfway through painting the very same model but can't decide what colour to paint the cloak.

Black is so blah now that he is done. Dark Gray would show more contrast. I almost made it so mine was going to appear very dark red, but I couldn't get it to turn out right.

I have also thought of a darker red. Khorne red maybe. The black on yours doesn't look at all bad so I may end up doing the same.
