Im curious to see what everyone here on dakka does when this comes up. For a year you've been working on your army, you have a good sizable chunk of it fully painted up, and you just don't want to paint it up anymore? You get ideas for other schemes that you think would look good on the figures, but what do you do? Do you go about repainting the army that you have done already? Or do you start this new scheme on additions to your existing force? Do you say screw it from the start and go on to just do a different project all together?

The situation im looking at personally are my Dark Eldar. I have 20 kabalites, 2 venoms, and a razorwing fully painted. another 20 kabalites, 5 incubi, 3 raiders, and 2 venoms basecoated. I still like my current scheme, im just tired of painting it.

Oh stop complaining, its for the greater good... Now get in the box!

Repainting models is generally the last thing you want to do - if you paint 50 dudes in one scheme, decide you like another better, then paint those 50 dudes again, you'll likely have the same problem when you finish repainting them. Try painting something different, or mixing up the scheme a bit. Maybe try painting something flesh-heavy, like some Wracks or Grotesques, or try changing up your paint scheme and doing a halved or quartered scheme with some of the colors you're already using.

What I do when I get tired of painting a color scheme is start another army, but I understand that's not exactly the best idea most of the time

Sometimes, but I 'solved' that problem by having an enormous backlog of different armies to paint. (great solution, really), and by generally having 2 distinct schemes in each army, so I can keep working on the army when I'm bored of one scheme.

My $0.02, which since 1992 has rounded to nothing. Take with salt.

I would recommend either buying some new units to paint, or trying an alternate color. I play DA, so I usually run green, but I also have a black vindicator. Anything green or black falls within my color scheme

What do you do when you painted a marine army a certain chapter, then fall out of love with that chapter and want to move on? I'm almost to the point of buying up new tac squads and stuff to start over then strip my hard work. Has any one else done thi?

My problem is picking a scheme to begin with, so I use a few minis as my test subjects until I find the scheme I like the best. If you are going to repaint, then I suggest stripping them first so you don't lose detail and make the minis look lumpy.

also, I like picking chapters/armies with diverse units, Dark Angels or Blood Angels for example.

I flit between my 2 armies (nids and blood angels). Doing a month or 2 on one then the other, keeps things fresh and interesting. I think it helps because they're so different too

If only you knew how many times I've painted and repainted my GKs. Though I did pretty much keep the same scheme, each iteration was just of a higher quality. I started at drybrushed boltgun and now I'm working on full-on nmm.

Crusade force. Have a couple of squads from a number of different chapters.

I began with the intent to make no more than 1-2000 points of Tyranids. I went with something close to Leviathan, because it was no big deal.

Now, almost 10,000 points, at least 6,000 painted, and while I have a good system of painting... I want to change it up sometimes. I solved this by having a little Marine army to work on here and there, and I will be most likely building up an 'ally' Tyranids force in different colours as well. Keeps things fresh.

I buy new armies or a different system.
