Yikes, that makes for one expensive robot! Looks much better though, I'll definitely give you that
I'm guessing the Castellax is a little on the small side to represent these Ka(ugh)stallans? Because if not, then they make a perfect substitute.

Oh no danger I'm sawing my Castellax apart, I'll take a mould of the domepiece and replicate it in putty, and fashion the shoulderpads out of plasticard.
The Castellax look to be a touch shorter than the new Kastelans, but most of the difference seems to be in the great bloody Epcot Centre on top and the gigantic feet. You'd have to find a grade-A pedant if you wanted someone to object to them being used for counts-as

That would explain why things like Imperium anti-air missiles are called "Flakk", and the one of the charts in the Imperial Knights codex is the "Stompy" chart. Instead of, you know, "Glorious Airborne Xeno-Grounding Missiles" and "The Emperor's Wrathful Footfalls" charts.

Now that I think about it, I guess the Imperium IS pretty close to North Korea..
In any case, now that I compare the two robots, I think the Kastelan would benefit from borrowing the crotch, shoulders and feet from the Castellax. It's lacking a bit of that square industrial (aka STC) vibe.

Well, I now have an extra Castellax head. yay one critical surface! Given that I already have 2 of these things and 3 Vorax (which will work nicely for the shooty version of the robots) I think I'll just need a single kit of the new boys and that'll be more than enough robots to grind my enemies into the red sands of mars.
So I'll use this head, and the spare sets of Castellax feet and their heights will match nicely.
now the only concern is mounting the head... it looks like the Castellax torso has quite a bit more of an oblique surface to it than the new guy's. I'll have to do some fiddling when I get him.
And, wait. What the frick is that imperial eagle doing slapped on his chest? Screw that noise, this thing is a freaking piece of 5000 year old archeotech there is no way a god damned imperial guard officer was allowed to slap one of those stupid eagles on it.
Aaaaaand we're back to casting.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Not yet, we will get the prices with the white dwarf leaks for that release. So far we only know the price of the Kastellan robots I think. Unless ive missed anything...hopefully the electro priests aren't too expensive. Im also curious to see if there are any duel kits with the cult mechanicus release, so far no real confirmation.

The left one almost looks like someone took some generic, dollar store robot toy and glued it to a plastic base. I don't even want to know how much GW is going to charge for it, the fact that someone in that company signed off on this garbage is infuriating enough.

I don't know how to properly articulate just how disappointed I've been with the 40k admech release so far. It's not terrible, but it's in no way lived up to much expectations.
I know I'm not the first to say it, but I reckon those Kastallans are pants. They've got nothing on the Castellax.
Everything's just been close, but not quite up to scratch; the skitarii stuff is all too pristine and uniform. I guess it's not grimdark enough. Admittedly I adore those new servitors, but that's just because they're the same aesthetic as the FW tech-thralls. The new techpriests are cool, but I still prefer the FW titan one...

I like to think the FW sculpts are based on the legends and myths of what stuff was back then and the robots actually looked like this stuff when it was finally rediscovered.
That said, I like the robots.

I think the robots are very derpy looking. However, it will take very little effort to make them look much better. Quad toe blocky feet, plasticard shoulder pads and a smaller head with a Gypsy Danger V visor rather than googly eyes. Much as I like the Castellax I think after conversion the Kastellan will look better due to its bulkier legs and Power Fists.
Excuse my terrible Paint Skills.

Christ, stop bringing up Gipsy Danger, I can't stand the thought of Gipsy being compared to that garbage.
I actually kinda like the rest of the Ad Mech range so far, but this model in particular stands out. It really is just the worst, and it doesn't fit in with the rest of the Ad Mech line at all. It's actually kinda jarring, you can see how all the other releases kinda fit together and you can buy that they're all part of the same army, but then you see this crap and it's like "Wait, WTF?!"
