Happy New Year all! Just finished this up today.
Imperial Knight Errant of House Degallio. Oathsworn to the Space Wolves of the Adeptus Astartes.
While many believed the entirety of House Degallio was destroyed during the Sanctus Reach engagement, numerous reports have placed this Knight fighting alongside the Wolves of Fenris in multiple warzones.
While the heraldry of the Knight's House remains intact, it has earned additional battle honors from and even taken on the livery of it's Space Wolf brethren.
Thanks for looking, and cc is welcome! Check out my gallery for more Knight madness!

Looks pretty good, but something looks off about it. I think it might be your decision to not go with a more stark contrasting color for the armor trim on the model. By going with a silver, the model just looks like a mass of gray. You've got some nice contrast with the yellows, whites, and reds, but there's not nearly enough to break up the gray, IMHO. I also think that the blue on the base is way too stark and unnatural. When you compare the excellent realism you've captured in the weathering on the model itself to the stark blue of the ice/water (I can't tell what it's supposed to be) on the base, it's a very stark difference between realism and an almost cartoony look. The basing itself is excellent, but the colors just aren't doing it for me.

Overall, you've done a good job, but I feel like there's some room where the overall look of the model could be greatly enhanced with more contrast on the Knight itself and less contrast on the base.

Darth-
Thanks for the input.
I painted this for someone else, and the armor trim color was by request. It was painted to match another Knight I did for the same person.
I totally see your point about the metals, and it would definitely work. I'll also chalk this up to the pictures not really capturing how the grey and the silver actually do contrast IRL.
I didn't really show any close up of the water/ice effects, but that's what is going on in the base. It actually is several layers of blues, that admittedly are pretty bright, but I liked the way they looked. There's a layer of crackle on there to add to the ice effects as well.

What I like doing with the knight models is trying to get more out of them than the standard pose you get out of the box, and therefore the pose that everyone just seems to go with.
It's amazing how many beautifully painted knights are out there, from high quality commission painters, and...all with the same pose.

Again, I appreciate the cc. It's nice to get some thought-out responses and suggestions to improve my skills.

I like the whole thing!
Heraldic shield looks great, and the modified pose on that base make it stick out.
Well done!
At first I didnt read your explanation, and seeing the SW icons, I figuered something close to his back story. Just saying the model nicely represent the fluff.

Very neat, I like it a lot.
The weathering is really good, not too much not too few, the right amount.

I really love the gothic style writting "Degallio".

The burned effect on the gun and the exaust pipe lack a few transition colors (like some blue/purple like on burned metal).

The base need more work on it. The water is too blue (if it is water) and I don't understand why there is a rock on a wall. The snow is good, and it is cool to see some snow on the feet of the imperial knight.

Great job overall

It's hard to see it in pictures, but the melta cannon and stacks have the purples and blues in there. I didn't do it to an extreme level like in your example picture since I used washes for the effect instead of acrylics.
The rocks on the wall are meant to bring out that the wall is very old, and part of the blasted out ruins of an old city where rubble piled up. Yeah, the blues aren't for everyone, but I like their vibrancy and how these blues are seen near shorelines/near icebergs in places with extremely cold temperatures.

It's made to match in theme with the other Degallio/SW Knight I've done, picture of that base is attached.

Thanks! Some say he might have a little of the Captain in him.

To get the pose, I have to literally break the legs apart at the joints before assembly. It's not difficult to do, and just requires a little flexing at the joint, and then taking a hobby knife to remove some of the remaining plastic. You can then move the joints at the knee and glue it in place rather seamlessly. After that, at the hip connection point, you have to shave the existing hexagonal indent to a circle so you can rotate the leg.

Yes, it's kind of a heart stopper when you purposefully break a $140 model, but I've done a few of these and it works out. (I should put together a step-by-step some day)

However, re-posing means that you have to also modify the hip joints, leg pistons, cables, and hip (crotch?) pistons.

Yup, airbrush. The Knight is a great canvas for it; I couldn't imagine the time it would take for successive layer brush painting for a smooth coat.
Also used to put down the wash and minor OSL.

Posing the legs isn't hard, it just takes a little time and moving the legs like this means you have to adjust all the things (cables, struts) that are cut for the standard pose.

Awesome! I'm not normally a fan of Chapter-themed Knights, but this one is just subtle enough that it really works!

My bad,

I meant no offence.
I like you Imperial Knight a lot. I just pointed the points that were strange to me.

I comment like i want other to comment when i will upload picture of my work (soon i promise ^^). I want people to point out what could be improved.

So again, your Knight is really impressive.

I was in no way offended by your post.
I welcome feedback, I just wanted to let you know that the effects are there, I just didn't get pictures close up.
I appreciate your appraisal!

Nice work! I like the wear around the pilot hatch, I looked at it for a bit and it looks great, just right for a pilot's boots to be wearing paint off where he climbs over off the ladder. I agree that the weathering is just right!
