I'm a few chapters into the novel death world and not but a few hours into the jungle their have been all manner of disease, hostile wildlife, etc... do orks just get a free pass against all of these things? The only contact so far has been a grot foraging group but for obvious reasons the Catachan devils didn't stop to compare survival techniques but they have maintained a fairly solid presence without orbital supply line unless Eagle and Bolter suddenly became a reliable publication while I wasn't looking and the war is nearly over.

The Orks are notorious for being able to survive in almost any environment. That's what makes them so hard to get rid of. They bring their habitat with them, since everything in the Orkosystem draws from the same source, their spores. Once an Ork settles on a planet, the spores embed themselves and start producing everything the Orks need to survive.

Think of something clever to say.

Right but are they totally immune to toxins, diseases, and parasites or the like?

I'd think they might be immune/resistant to whatever poisons/toxins/diseases/parasites are native to whatever planet they have grown on. But all of those things from other planets/systems/manufactured could easily effect them.

No, but at T4, it's fair to compare them to Space Marines in their ability to survive the above.

Not immune but tough. And they are orks. If the wildlife kills you then obviously you were too weak - any impact on morale is temporary at best.

Not to say a Death World couldn't kill them all off, but if Catachans can live there orks can probably manage too.

the orks are generally pretty tough, and easily fixed if something goes wrong. I imagine they are still capable of being killed by diseases and what-have-you, but it would take more than were necessary to kill off 'oomies, and it would be temporary at best.

but put it this way - if some 'oomies come along with a cold, it'll not likely do anything. if typhus came along with the destroyer plague, it'd probably do a darn-sight more.

Orks aren't completely immune to disease, as Mortarion once used a bunch of plague infested orks as bombs. However, they are EXTREMELY resilient to it, IIRC, though I forget where that's stated. Still, these are the same guys that can survive head transplants, and when was the last time you heard of an ork painboy treating an ork for a cold?

The T4 comparison mentioned earlier is probably a decent way to guestimate it, I suppose.

It's stated in the current ork codex that active ork settlements have been found on asteroids drifting in open space. No idea how it's technically possible but it's in the book.
Orks are not immune to diseases but they're very resilient.

Forcefields. Orks use force fields for spaceships with enough energy they could create a force field which envelops an asteroid

Any ork that dies is not tough enough and that's no loss to ork kind.

Any that survive are tough and good orks. there naturally tough, resilient and can survive on worlds and things that would kill humans. if its uninhabitable for orks, then something is seriously wrong and dangerous.

Not only are da boyz tough, but anytime one of them dies, the others eat him. Because there is more food available the rest get bigga'.

Net effect is the total mass of orks remains the same.

Don't forget that orks reproduce by moving and dieing. One dies, his spores spread everywhere. They tougher ones keep walking, their spores spread too. The only way to wipe out orks entirely is with a Nurgle high five or set EVERYTHING on fire

Using Ork logic, I see a problem there:

All Orks who die are weak. But Orks only reproduce by spores from Ork corpses. Meaning, tuff Orks don't pass their lineage. Only dead and weak ones. Meaning, over time, there will only be weak Orks!!

So first, a bit of logic: your premise is that Orks only reproduce by spores they release when they die, and if an ork die the ork is weak, therefore if the premise are true, then all newborn orks are genetically weaker than the non dead orks.

Neglecting genetic mutations this logic would have been sound; however, the old fluff didn't say that Orks doesn't release spores when they are alive, just that they release the most when they do die. It doesn't stop strong Orks from procreation. Because your premise is wrong, we can see that your conclusion cannot be drawn.

All of this irrelevant anyways, since the new Ork dex has retconned that bit into "we really don't know how they reproduce, and the spore stuff was just wild speculation from some ner-- I mean, Tech Priests in the mechanicus. For all we know they pop out of thin air when a Waagghh is going on."

Keep reading the book, the Orks in that story aren't as invincible in that environment as you think they are.

Moreover, Premise 1 (all Orks who die are weak) is in itself false. Hence, so too is the conclusion derived from it. On the other hand, I did say it was Ork logic, after all. But on the other other hand, Ork logic being what it is, if they believe it then it must be true!!

Supposedly the ork spores naturally terra form (or the orky equivalent) the area the orks inhabit. Meaning any poisonous flora and dangerous fauna are replaced by much more manageable poisonous fungus and dangerous squigs.

Easy!

Orks are, biologically, tougher than Space Marines in terms of raw survivability (Space Marines have power armor that makes them far more survivable than the average Boy, and superior strength than any Ork Yoof-- though Nobz vastly outpace Marines in strength and biological durability).

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.
