Hi there, playing X-Wing tourney at my LGS this Saturday.
I'm not good at flying groups in formation and I like the idea of having 2 big lumps flying round the board, so I've made this list.
It's 2 VT-49s loaded out like this;
Commander Kenkirk - Elusiveness, Ysanne Isard
Captain Oicunn - Ruthlessness, Intelligence Agent, Dauntless, Anti-Pursuit Lasers
I'm planning on using Oicunn aggressively driving into the enemy hoping to spread some damage around with his abilities, using the intelligence agent to ensure an overlap.
Kenkirk will be more defensive, circling round the outside of the fighting focusing on whatever has taken damage.
Oicunn will go down first but hopefully will kill enough points to win while Kenkirk lurks behind asteroids with an inflated defence against what will hopefully not be concentrated fire providing enough has been killed.
Hopefully it'll be an entertaining list to use, if not a competitive one. What do you think?

Would Ruthlessness work on Oicunn? I read it as only activating after an attack (i.e. shooting someone)

I don't think that'd be allowed. Might do with the pursuit lasers if that counts as an attack. But he'll be shooting something else close by is my idea and then bouncing the damage back to the collided ship.
EG. Oicuun hits a dude, does a damage, maybe does another with APL. Then he gets a free target lock which he puts on another ship close by. Fires 4 attack die (probably) then if he causes damage, puts another damage on the ship he's overlapped.

Curses! Maybe I can do both with the Intelligence Officer if I check someone who's got a higher skill. Plus with a big base so close it might happen by itself.
That'd allow me to have a similar ability passively as well as aggressively.
Unless you can think of a better thing to spend 2 points on?

Elusiveness might not be a great pairing for Kenkirk. His own ability is fine, but Isard's ability is an action - in order to benefit from it you're going to need to be shedding stress every turn, and the VT-49 decimator isn't over-burdened with green manouvres.
Anti-pursuit lasers aren't an attack, so no Ruthlessness. Intelligence Agent is a good call, because it lets you position yourself to take advantage of his ability.
I don't see why it shouldn't work. The main issue is that if you hold Kenkirk back, you've got two three-dice attacks, one at long range, plus the odd point of automatic damage. That's very shy on firepower compared to what other lists might be throwing back at you.

Ah I now see a free action not allowed under stress.
The VT can turn on a green, and the turret will help with line of site. I suppose I could run it more aggressively and then if things turn bad then see what's best.
I guess if I run them close together I could drop Elusiveness and take another set of anti pursuit lasers?
Kind of got my heart set on 2 VTs but flexible on the load out. What would you change?

Elusiveness is a waste. Even on ships with lots of defense dice (where you can avoid taking damage entirely with good rolls) it's a bad upgrade because re-rolling one die usually just gives a hit or eye, turning the card text into "you may take a stress token". And even in the best-case scenario you're only reducing the incoming damage by one hit, you're rarely avoiding it entirely. The decimator's best defense is having 16 HP, spend your EPT on offense. This. And since you're holding back it gives your opponent an obvious target to focus on, which very quickly results in a dead decimator (followed shortly by the other one).

Thanks for the advice, always appreciated
So drop Elusive and take anti-persuit lasers, then run them close together?
Or change the second VT pilot.
I like Oicunn's setup it sounds pretty fun to use. Otherwise if you have better suggestion for 2nd pilot?

I used this list in the tournament this weekend, and won it!
First game was against 1VT, Howlrunner and 2 Academy Pilots. This ended with 100-0 win. 1 VT was down to 1 HP the other 6.
I then played a 3 X-wing list. Luke, Biggs and I cant remember who the last one was, Bad much up really for opponent, he had a lot of defence stripping abilities that don't help with a VT, and as I had Ruthlessness shooting at Biggs was fine . Ended with 100-0 win again.
3rd game was Chewbacca in the falcon with a hawk and y-wing with ion turrets. Had some bad rolls in this game and the Ion weapons ended up sending a VT over an asteroid for 2 turns so no firing :(. So lost that and only managed to kill the Y-wing. 100-23 Loss
Last game was against 2 A-wings an X-wing and a B-wing.
Fairly straightforward game although landed on both ships asteroids in the 2nd turn.
The opponent had flown his A-wings straight at me and I ended up having to stop both on the asteroids which hurt as I got shot with everything on Oicunn and no return fire. Lost Oicunn's ship before the end but killed all his ships by the end. So a 100-50 win
Having played this list it I've learned a couple of things.
Having just two ships at such a high point value means that if you win with both ships even just barely alive its still a big skew in score. That's what pushed me over the top in points.
As for equipment there will be some changes. I misunderstood the intelligence officer and found he is entirely pointless here. It only lets you look at someone's manoeuvres after you've already set yours, so useless in this list. The other thing I'd do is drop dauntless and use the 3 points to give the other ship Ruthlessness too, that may help mitigate the lower amount of shooting having only 2 ships.
Pretty happy with the list otherwise. Need to be more tactial with asteroid placement in future but otherwise viable I think
