All depends on the foe you're facing. They're not ultra top tier competitive, but they're pretty solid. T6 W6 with a 3+sv is pretty hardy, and is a pretty solid hard-counter to certain units (e.g. buffed up GUO's, TWC, etc).

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

I'm curious as to its role as a distraction-fex.
It seems like one of those units that will draw a lot of fire (which can be good). Like the Doom. I miss the Doom. Never have I seen a better distraction unit. Either he takes a full round of shooting and dies or he wipes out half an army.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I usually just dumped a command squad with quad meltas at the Doom and that was usually that.

Usually Eldar and it seems like with the ammount of firepower there transports put out he would be dead long before making it to combat.

Well, against Eldar none of its particular abilities will be tremendously useful, but most armies have problems with Eldar and Wave Serpents. Doesn't mean the Dimachaeron is bad overall, just not greatly suited to fighting Eldar.
But against something like a Dreadknight or TWC's, where the Dim would get to strike first and make use of those ID attacks, you'd get a lot of use out of it.

So then since Eldar are my main opponent I will probably pass on getting one.

You're not missing anything. To get value, you need to get it into contact. How, is in part a matter of style. A Tyrannocyte is a very good choice, or a screen of Hormagaunts and a Shroud source ( Malanthrope! Come on down! )
Master of Ambush is a winner, but you can't be sure you'll have it. As long as you are playing "threat overload" it is a usable Big Bug. Even if it gets shot down, the rest of the Horde can Feed.

The shroud providing units tend to just get sniped by serpent shields...
Could try drop podding him in and hopping he lives long enough to be useful though.

Greater Unclean Ones... Oh. God. No... They ruin Dimas, don't throw the most beautiful Tyranid away at a creature that will most likely have Eternal Warrior, Wound you on 2s re-rollable and Insta Gib you. Don't do it!

If he gets Endurance then yeah, but otherwise, the Dim will strike first and probably kill the GUO before he ever gets to swing.

Glorified Trygon really. Cool model but slow and still expensive. You do get good rules with ID on 4+ IRRC, but a Trygon will do the same to basic troops all the same, and those are hardly desireable. Again cool model though!

If the GUO has iron arm, endurance, or warp speed that's probably a dead Dima. Even if you're swinging first you're still not entirely likely to kill it. And the GUO will undoubtedly kill it in return. Your'e much better off just shooting any nurgle MCs dead with Flyrants or tarpitting them since they can't sweep.

This is where Threat Overload kicks in...if the Veno/Malan gets sniped, the Dima is getting into contact unshot...it does not matter why you arrive intact,(made cover saves, or did not get shot) it only matters that you do arrive.
I have shared several times my favorite "game story" about 40k. Almost every time my Tyrannofex dies, I win. It cheers me up when it gets pounded, because all those shots are going into my toughest monster. So any shots that don't go into the Dima, are a win. And Malanthropes have plenty of Wounds, and Regen don't they?
But, I think a Pod is the way to go... I don't own one, and don't plan to buy one, but I am going to paint up a Toxicrene, and that bad girl's going into a pod.

Lol. Besides that Dimas in pods are great. When the majority of your army deepstrikes,1-2 dropping dima's is very Competetive.

Here in Warhammer 40k all Tyranids are female, we've engineered them that way. We control their chromosomes. It's really not that difficult. All vertebrate embryos are inherently female anyway, they just require an extra hormone given at the right developmental stage to make them male. We simply deny them that.

Did you just make a Jurassic Park joke.... Nicely done.
I did decide to order one(maybe more later) and I do think drop podding it in will work great, it should at least create a very real threat to opponents backfield and make them hold stuff back to defend against it.
