Subject: [1850] - Chaos daemons/csm allies - the search for invinciblity

So having been woken up in the middle of th knight by a screaming baby I found time to list build. I have a dream, of a chaos list which can go up against a top end shooty list with enough bodies surviving to reach assault.
The basic idea is to create two near invincible units.
The first is the classic screamerstar. The second is khornedogs, backed up by a war of Armageddon land raider and belakor.
So each turn the aim is for one unit to be covered by grimoire and another by invisibility, with bonus inv save from the raider legacy and hopefully cursed earth.. and shrouding as well
Belakor can hide behind the raider. Im not particularly familiar with fateweaver but the reroll and warp storm control are hopefully worth the points.
I figure horrors are the best use of compulsory troops. Extra charge and summoning backup.
To fill the raider its the cheap combat unit.
I want more hounds, but not sure what can be cut. A khorne herald would have been nice too.

Welll not bad but I think you'd be better off going about attaining Daemonic invincibility from more of the usual routes. The Land Raider just seems out of place and is a huge point sink even for the buffs it provides via legacy of ruin. I'd drop it in favor of more hounds (if you're going to sink points into buffs you might as well have a unit worth buffing) and ML3 on the Tzeentch Heralds. Hounds also really need a Khorne Herald to make them worthwhile. The Herald and his 6 at initiative AP2 attacks really does most of the heavy lifting, not to mention Locus of Wrath is worth its weight in gold.

Good points. Maybe I am trying to shoehorn in the armageddon legacy. The redundancy of inv save generation is appealing, and the raider does also provide a LOS block to belakor and another assault unit. But more hounds is more hounds and totally agree on khorne herald

Ok a slight refinement to fit more hounds. I still can't quite picture it stacking up defensively without the raider. Belakor is too hard to keep alive.
Bloodletters go in the raider. The legacy should give them a bit of a boost.

If you are worried about turn 1 dead bel'kor why not take a bastion with escape hatch instead of the land raider. Then you can have your bloodletters (which I would swap for daemonettes btw) hide in it turn 1 and emerge an extra 12" up the board + 6" move. Hurrah for first turn charges!

Bastion was in the back of my mind. You can't assault from an escape hatch mind.
Do get extra movement on 20 bodies that way tho.
I know daemonettes are better but the raider is dedicated to khorne, I couldn't handle loading slanneshi stuff inside :*(

7th edition lets you assault out of buildings (a change from 6th edition), does the escape hatch have a special rule that prevents you doing it?

Looks better. Everyone says bloodletters suck, but that's just because they never make it to assault without a transport. They're generally not worth buying a LR for, but since you wanted it anyway for a mobile bunker and Khornate invuln save booster, then why not. Against more static gunlines you'll be able to hide Be'Lakor pretty easily, but it's going to be a lot harder against FMCs, fast skimmers, and drop pods. Still, doesn't look half bad once you get your powers rolling.

Could swap the hounds and a screamer out for two blood slaughterers.
A bit slower, but AV13, a Genuine threat to knights and can give cover to the land raider. Automatically Appended Next Post: The fact that I have no control over their movement kind of makes that idea really really terrible.. sigh.

Guys. Daemons can't embark on transports. It's in the beginning of the rules section of the codex where it talks about battle brothers. They cannot join a unit without the same Daemon of X special rule, be joined by characters without the Daemonnof X special rule, or embark on transports. Bloodletters in a land raider would be nice, but alas, it is not to be.

Daemonic Instability makes no mention of transports whatsoever, and embarking a transport is not in any way "joining a unit."

Embarking on a vehicle is not joining a unit.

Hmm. I could have sworn that rule was somewhere... But having looked for it thoroughly, it appears as though I made it up! Sorry, carry on.

Happens to the best of us.
I've totally changed my mind about the blood slaughterers, I think that are a fantastic unit. perfect for the kind of invul save boosting this list is trying to do. I think i would need some hounds to herd them in the right direction if the enemy tried to be clever.
Alternatively, stick an icon on the blood letters and deep strike the BS in.. possibly even charging the turn they come down! Automatically Appended Next Post: New list. Only 5 rolls for cursed earth which is a shame..
