Hello,

I'm Johnny. I'm 31 and I come from the Netherlands. A couple of years ago I bought Heroquest in a nostalgic mood. Talked about it with some friends and colleagues and before I knew it we started playing it once a month or so. Through this I met a colleague who was heavy into Warhammer Quest so I started playing that as well. I'm mostly into the designs of the miniatures. I've bought some Skaven and had them painted professionally. We we're not really interested in wargaming. Between adding house rules to both Heroquest and Warhammer Quest we're satisfied in our fantasy needs. However, some of us are really in love with Warhammer 40K. I've enjoyed the Dawn of War series immensely and the same goes for a couple of friends. I started looking for a good board game so we could play in that universe as well. However, this proves to be rather difficult. We did enjoy Space Hulk but that's for 2 players. We're with +/- 5 people that are interested. So I Googled and the best thing I found was Necromunda. But that's too complicated for us. I think we play too casual for that. So our question is actually this: Is there a board game, or a concept that does allow us to play different factions without actually have to go all wargaming? Or better yet, a game kinda like Warhammer Quest but set in the 40K universe? Having different sets of heroes fight different sets of monsters?

Thanks,

Johnny

Necromunda would tick all your boxes, but like you say it's very complicated and frankly terribly written. The rules fall apart once you have played a few games, especially with the more exotic factions.
Locally we play a re-written house rule version of necromunda and it works fairly well. Maybe try Kill Team?

Thank you for the suggestion. I didn't stop searching though and I've now found Space Crusade. I think that with some modding, that would be a good place to start. Local copies aren't expensive either. Around 45 euro. That's not bad for something to try. Any opinions about that game?
