Subject: Late war SS in Jack boots?

Dakka,
I'm about to dive into some warlord plastics to fill my multi part plastic 28mm fix and since a year or so of 15mm I'm finally confident enough in my painting skills to attempt some SS autumn plane tree. I have a sprue of blitzkrieg Germans coming to help with some kit bashing, but I'm concerned that their jack boots might stick out a bit amongst other late war grenadiers.
I know many of the Atlantic wall units had a mix of gear, but would this be feasible with late war SS?
Normally I'm fine with leaving a few rivets uncounted, just want to make sure this isnt beyond the pale with most.
Thanks,
Tucker

Buttons Should Be Brass, Not Gold!

Not many had them late war... they do turn up but mainly on officers.
Boots wear out fast with all that marching.

Hi Strombones, just use some putty or green stuff and extend the pant leg. It will look like the pants are a bit blouses and it's not like you have to be neat about it.
And don't forget they're brown boots, not black like the earlier jack boot.
Good luck

Thanks Piers. Now that I've had a second look at the blitzkrieg sprue I think I'll hold off on plane tree until I can get the models with some zeltbahns and smocks. I think a few jack booted guys will do fine mixed into a bodenstandig unit so I guess my first force will be 716th.
We're going to have a run at some skirmish level BG in 28 because why not start again in a slightly bigger scale, amirite?
As for the green stuff, I've managed a decent hood on a parka but thats about the top of m pay grade.
Thanks for the replies.

I've been combining the Warlord "Blitzkrieg" Germans with their "late war" Germans, by putting the jackbooted legs onto the late war bodies. These represent my officers and NCOs. It's more work than you'd think, because the proportions aren't consistent, but it's worth the effort. This is for mid-war era models; as Big P says, jackboots weren't common by late in the war.
Wait for the plastic Panzergrenadiers which are coming out soon. They will make very good late war SS troops.

Yeah those are the ones I decided to wait for. I'm chomping at the bit for them to be released. Do you have any guess as to when that might be?
