He dropped popped those doors open and literally broke my dread-knights nemesis great sword off his hand. The power of the drop pod is unmatched! I mean those doors come down with some serious velocity! Maybe we could have someone conversion style spring load them so see just how much damage they can cause when placed in between 3-4 squads without even the possibility of mishap. I bet with the proper spring loading technique you could easily win most game through attrition of models. Sorry Gk...you aren't cool enough to have pods of your own. So the only way to break enemy models will be to knock over storm ravens (accidentally.)

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Yeah but not that allies I want lol. Did my dreadknight really deserve to have his nicely airbrushed sword broken!?!? I don't think so.

I guess I could make a question out of this. What is the most models you've destroyed with a single drop pod? I don't mean removed as a casualty. I mean what is the most models you've literally broken with a drop pod. If not a drop pod what models have you literally destroyed other models with? For me...it's storm raven as I have never even used a drop pod.

The destructive power of drop pods is balanced out by the assembly/painting issues. Sure, if you field enough, you might snap off an arm or weapon, but it that worth the mind-breaking insanity of actually getting them built?

You also need to consider the damage to your own troops. When you are disembarking, those doors can be tricky to keep your footing on. Many a marine has gone tumbling off the edge onto the battlefield below.

It was the adjacent tablet where some thing called "Fantasy" was happening. Though it just looked like 40k with smaller unit coherency!

Nope. Open them slowly or just magnetize them/glue them closed. Never broke a model yet.

I have not experienced a drop pods literal destructive power, but I did drop my tape measurer on a Necron warrior once. It went flying above our heads before falling back to the ground. It failed it's resurrection protocol too (I did make the roll), but a little glue did the trick.

It just makes everything complicated for no reason.

Why should they not? Lots of chaos has turned relativey recently and would still have drop pods from when they were loyal. Also, drop pods were around in the Heresy so even Chaos marines from then would have drop pods.

You don't think they'd've used them sometime in the last 10,000 years? As far as we know, drop-pods are irrecoverable once they slam into the ground.

So what about the recent converts then...

Also, surely the Dark Mechanicus still have the means to build drop pods.

Recent converts might have them, certainly, though from what I see it's rare that anything company-sized turns traitor as a whole. So you get piecemeal renegades, with piecemeal equipment - not a regular supply of pods, to be sure.

As far as the Dark Mechanicus, they may have the means, but not the sanity.

I for one am in favor of chaos having drop pods. If they have battle barge, strike cruisers, thunder-hawks...they should have drop pods...

Who rarely turn in even Company strength, so I guess Chaos might have some strike cruisers. Maybe.

Over the course of 10k years, I'm 100% positive there have been several instances of entire chapters going renegade, even more where several companies go, and I imagine hundred, if not thousands, of instances where more than a single company fall to chaos.

There's sufficient numbers turning for it to be perfectly reasonable to say that some chaos warbands have access to more 'modern' battle-barges, strike cruisers, and thunderhawks.

To that extent, it would therefore make sense to include drop pods in the roster of chaos marines.
