I am writing an expository paragraph for a project. Is a real Hive Mind telepathetic or what? Please tell me what it is. Thanks!

There really isn't a true hive mind in the real world. The hive mind concept is derived from insects who follow a "queen" that controls all the other members of the hive. Insects use chemicals and pheromones to control their behavior.
The concept has been extrapolated to artificial intelligence, sociological behavior patterns (mob rule, et al.) and philosophical theories. Stuff like what the Tyranids have is purely the realm of science fiction.

Hive minds are very real, and they TOTALLY communicate through telepathy. That's a real thing and it happens 100% of the time. You're off to a good start by coming to Dakka on this one instead of, like, research or something. Trust me. We can have you a stellar paragraph by tomorrow, I'm sure.

That's what Stalin said, you know, but he had to speak out against the west at the time, as was simply proper. You should add that into your paragraph, along with the fact that it was actually Charles Babbage, the father of evolution who said, and I quote, "Hive minds? Scary gak. I see those all the time. For reals."

"Hive minds? Scary gak. I see them all the time." -Charles Babbage, The Origin of Life, Part 2. The father of the theory of evolution recognized hive minds for what they were: Unnerving and constant telepathic communication between insects with brains vastly more powerful and yet microscopic in comparison to our own. Unfortunately, most people unable to deal with the concept of something greater than Man himself have chosen to dismiss these things as radical when the science is settled on them. Instead they flock behind psuedo-scientific concepts such as "pheromones", when in fact, it's a well established fact that it's impossible to smell like anything other than what you are, and there's no way to alter that in any way. The purpose of this essay is to expand upon these ideas and establish a conclusive argument in favor of how these "Offactorologists" are misleading the scientific community as a whole from what can be firmly proven through experimentation.
There, now you can spend the rest of the night drinking.

There has been some interesting research recently which showed ant nests (and thus ant queens), even from precisely the same species, can develop specific 'personalities', based largely on their surroundings - those with easy access to food etc become, over time, risk-averse, but those that find food harder to get will take more risks, ie deploy more resources in riskier vetnures to find supplies. This behaviour sometimes continues even when good food supplies are found. Nothing to do with telepathy, I just found it v interesting.
Also, get hold of a copy of 'Phase IV', 70s scifi about ants gaining super intelligence. Nothing to do with telepathy either, but really cool

I would argue the Internet proves the opposite; the whole is the capacity of its weakest system divided by the number of systems involved...
