Just getting back into the game after a very long break. I'm assembling my first army as Red Corsairs. I've always liked Huron's fluff, and assembled most of this from old Space Marines/Imperial Guard models.I would like to keep it fluffy, but still somewhat competitive. I went without flyers or any real flyer defense due to the fact that my friends don't play with them.
Huron- 160
Sorcerer- Jump pack, Sigil,, Burning Brand- 130
22 Cultists- Hvy Stubber- 103
12 CSM- 2 Plasma guns, Power weapon, Plasma pistol- 226
15 CSM- 2 Plasma pistols, Flamer, Power weapon, 14 CCW- 269
20 CSM- 2 Plasma guns, Power weapon- 315
3 Bikers- 2 Melta guns, Combi-melta, Power weapon- 115
10 Raptors- 3 Plasma pistols, Power weapon- 240
5 Havocs- 4 Lascannons, Plasma pistol- 170
5 Havocs- 2 Autocannons, Hvy Bolter, Missile launcher- 120
I'm still trying to get back into the game, so any advice/criticism is always welcome!

Oh, boy, you have been away for a long time! Strap in, buddy!
Playing Huron, to get his full worth, you'll want to have 3 squads that could really benefit from infiltrating. Think melta guns, stuff that can rapid fire. You can infiltrate squads that are in rhinos, remember.
It seems to me like you pulled the number of troops per squad for your troops out of a hat, I don't understand them. The way people generally run CSM is in squads of 10 with 2X the same special weapon, usually plasma guns or melta guns, and then a rhino, and they fire them from the 2 fire points till it does, then they disembark the wrecked rhino and continue.
Why would you take 15 point plasma pistols on your raptors when you can take 15 point plasma guns?
Never mix weapons! Havocs are not long fangs. Give them 4X the same weapon. Also, the chance that your 48" range missile launchers, autocannons, etc, will ever fire alongside your 12" range plasma pistol are pretty low. Not an upgrade worth taking, really.
What I would suggest to you is to make an alpha strike list, take advantage of Hurons warlord trait. Take 3 squads to infiltrate, and have the rest of the army have the range or speed to help at least by turn 2 if not by turn 1. To keep if fluffy, make sure you take bikers! Even a biker lord! I think infiltrating chosen in rhinos with 5X Plasma guns would kick some ass, because they could:
1) Infiltrate within 18" of an opponent
2) Move up 6", disembark
3) Move 6" away from rhino
4) Rapid fire 10 STR 7 AP 2 shots, per squad of chosen, into whatever you choose.
Take a crimson slaughter sorcerer with the Balestar for prescience to make your plasma guns twink linked with psychic powers!

I played mostly in 2nd Ed, so yeah...been a while
Most troops were chosen basically by what I had laying around that I thoughtveould look cool in a Corsair army. Many models have been stored 20+ years, and require reprinting and/or remodeling. I still have around 300 models in the bitz box, so I can manage most builds. I'll retool a bit and come up with a better list Tomorrow.
Thanks for the tips!

Please listen to Changerofways. He is absolutely right.
Hq-Huron (you are gauranteed to infiltrate at least 1 infantry unit)
I have seen people combine Huron and Ahriman and Cypher and they think they get 2d3 infiltrated infantry units. I dont think it works that way unless I am mistaken because I tried it and my opponent argued with me.
Troops
You want to infiltrate this squad.
20 CSM, 2 Melta guns, Mark of Slaanesh, Icon of Excess, Champ can have plasma pistol if you have spare points, other wise get a power weapon and melta bombs
2nd nominated squad: 10 CSM, 2 Melta guns, Champ with melta bomb, Rhino just in case you dont get to infiltrate.
3rd nominated squad: 10 CSM, 2 Melta guns, Champ with melta bomb, Rhino just in case you dont get to infiltrate.
Elite: If you have spare points, get singleton mutilators to ds or get termicide to ds turn 2
Fast Attack: 3x5 Spawns with MoN and run them up the board
Or get 3 squads of bikers with MoN and meltagun pairs.
Heavy: 3 Mauler Fiends running at the enemy.
Oh and if you dont like the meltas then try the plasma guns.

Huron and Ahriman both get their ability to Infiltrate through automatically having the same Warlord trait. As you can not have two Warlords, you only get the benefit of one of them.

In order to infiltrate chosen with cypher, you have to take his formation. He doesn't just hand out infiltrate to any chosen in the army.

Changerofways is definitely spot on with all he's said.
If you are set on a sorcerer, he needs to be at least ML2, and should ALWAYS take a spell familiar. If you're going psychic then that's the best upgrade in the book.

He can, if he joins with the squad ( since he confers infiltrate on the unit he joins). So, with Cypher and Huron, that is from 2 - 4 units of infiltrators, which is perfect for those large troop blobs of CSMs. Better yet, take Cypher and then outflank a large unit with him...Tau hate this.
I agree that Meltaguns would be a better fit for those Raptors. I also like the bike squad here. Small and fast enough to either be ignored, but still enough of a threat to draw some fire from the closing troop blobs.

As most of my Red Corsairs are old converted Dark Angels, I really like the idea of Cypher in this group as well.
Another quick question. What is the role of independent characters in all of the infiltrating madness? Can they join a unit that Huron gives infiltrate to? Or are they stuck back with the "regular" guys? I guess that actually includes Huron himself, who can apparently show anybody (but not himself) how to infiktrate. Those who can't, teach, eh?

This point is often argued on the internet. The whole deciding factor is to decide if an IC joins a unit before the game has started, or right when it does. If you decide he has joined a unit before the game, when he grants a squad the infiltrate special rule, he is counted as part of that unit. If you decide that ICs join a unit as the game starts, then he is not there to receive the special rule.
At my club we decide that people like Ahriman and Huron can join units before they grant them infiltrate. This may be a mercy rule, though, considering I have the least compettitive army at the club and they just feel bad for me. Rule disagreements usually go in my favor out of pity

Changer pretty much has this one nailed down. My luck dictates a lean towards melta over plasma 'personally' But a squad with double plasma, and champ with p.pistol in a rhino can be gold.
I'm not a big fan of Spawn but as much as I hate Nurgle, Nurgle Bikers are hard to bring down if you go competitive.
