I doubt witches are going away. They're what just over 1 year old? They wouldn't pay for the digital sculpt & engineering / tooling the die to use for just over 1 year & then drop it. They may move to special / rare but I don't think they'll drop.

Yeah I doubt witches are getting dropped. And even if they do, and you need some for 8th, well you'll be playing an unsupported game and not in a GW so you could get alternatives. (I've seen some Raging Heroes ones, but they are inferior to the GW sculpts in my opinion.)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

To the OP, right now there is so much smoke going on in Fantasy; be it true, false, or partial of both makes any commitment a gamble. GW will not tell you either way what they plan on doing since it could reduce sales which for them sales > customer opinion.

If you like the models and love to paint go for it? GW models never disappoint.

If diving into a game system on the edge of possible changing completely, that's your call.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did away with the HE spearmen and bowmen and used the DE kits for both, then just repackage then with bows so you could have bows xbows and spearmen all from 1 box. I doubt they would just chuck stuff away as oppose to looking for effeciencies in production, kits and shelf space

They wont, that is not what i meant, the kit that are likelly to carry given their future core is some elf kit that does spear and bow men. If you want elves that carry say 2 hand weapons, are naked ladies, carry 2 handed weapons etc, you are SOL.

At those prices they could easily have paid for the sculpting and tooling, if just enough gamers (of the right 'attitude') bought them.

Raging heroes are nice ; it's a rare example of the renders actually not doing RH sculpts justice.

Also nice are avatars of war Vestals (once again, you see the painted models, and probably think i smoke crack... but the bare plastic minis are really, really nice).

That said... GW's witch elves are probably the nicest of all 3. They are great looking sculpts.

Just was given island of blood for a gift. Just painted the first units of rats. Kinda make me sad as I was looking at getting some more stuff to round out the two armies.

If you have a decent gaming community, there's no reason you can't build a full sized army as, even if 9th completely invalidates it, there will still be people willing to play 8th.

And even so, as numerous posters have pointed out, the rumours we have at the moment are still that, RUMOURS. Yes, Bretonnia could cease to exist along with half the armies when "Zero Hour" comes, but, at this point, it's equally likely that Fantasy will simply get a bit of an overhaul, perhaps allowing for warband-sized battles, and all the existing armies could remain intact.

We can only speculate at the moment. So, if you don't mind waiting, then wait, but, if not, you may as well start now. Besides, if you do start now you can get some games of 8th in as the current edition.

I thought I had a decent gaming community which wanted to stay with 7th when GW moved to 8th, it didn't last terribly long, maybe a few months. It's far harder to maintain communities for games that aren't being supported any more.

Yeah, I never hear about people playing 6th or earlier editions of WHFB really. I think there's just a stigma that develops against old rule sets- they are seen as inferior even if they play in ways a lot of people prefer. Look to the craziness that is 7th edition 40k- conversations about old rule sets are generally met with people saying the old editions are inferior to the current edition even if there is a growing negative consensus about the current edition of the game.

People just want to play the most current edition of the game, and it seems for a significant portion of the player base, the options are play the current edition or don't play at all.

Thing is, you hear about the new end times models being dropped, but how much did they take to create, produce the mould for and produce the model itself? Then they expect to recoop all losses in a few months to stop production?

I thought new moulds were extremely expensive.

Yes and no, for you and me they are very expensive, for GW not so much. Also keeping the molds up to snuf for printing costs money as well. So they might decide to use cheaper molds (like aluminum aloid ones) and simply plan for an X amount of profit out of each mold.

Molds have been mentioned before as being prohibitively expensive by GW...so that's plain wrong.

But how many End times models are they expecting to sell from these moulds are they expecting to sell to recoop their losses in production. How many Undead players are there currently and how many of them could be expected to buy Nagash? I doubt it is an incredible amount in the scale of things, considering WHFB had been declining for several years prior.

Actually, End Times models are expected to stay and be usable in 9th. Given the nature of Stormfiends and Blightkings, so unlike any other WFB kit, I'd consider that highly likely.

This would also explain why elves got no kits with ET3. Also, all the characters released so far are immortal and could plausibly exist 200 years in the future.

The list of things being dropped actually included some of the End Times items--and some kits that are barely a year old such as the Dark Elf War Hydra/Kharibdyss.

I'm ok with this. I think it looks stupid I use the reaper bones hydra.

Speak for yourself.

I love the War Hydra kit. It looks suitably beasty and large, yet believable as something that could be tamed.
