Now that battlefleet gothic is heading down the video game line never more to return to the world of plastic is this sometime we would like to see develop if not to full 40k but to our other beloved specialist games? Necromunda, inquisitor etc? Personally I love my miniatures but so rarely get the chance to game anymore I wouldn't be adverse to the whole thing going this way but I know I'm in a really small minority here... Or am I? Could we have video games and still see miniatures produced?

Mordheim is actually available on Steam. It is still being fully developed and you can't customize your warband much, but it is playable now.

Thanks for the heads up. It was a while ago since I looked.

I would fear they could end up like space hulk which was like the slow death for gameplay. My favorite video game so far has been squad command on the psp.

What I've played of it is better than Space Hulk in my opinion. The main thing they made better about it was remove the undo option that space hulk had. Plus there is no top down option, when the time comes to move your unit it is purely third person over the shoulder. You have access to a map, but you only get to know the locations of your enemies if you can physically see them. Otherwise the map marks their last "known" location, but they could be hiding on the other side of a building or half way across the board if they have stayed out of your warband's line of sight.

Majority of recent Warhammer and 40k games make me just shiver. Space Hulk was quite weak, and Storm of Vengeance... ugh. Storm of Vengeance was just pure heresy.

WHFB games are bit better these days. Warhammer Quest is quite enjoyable and incoming Mordheim looks solid.

But still, I am very against recent GW Specialist Games making their way to PC. Not because I'd preffer TT version - but because of GW, giving their license to whoever pays them cash, which is source of so many games, so varying in quality, in so little time. Even this Deathwing game is quite worrying to me, as it is made by completely random studio.

So nope - as long as GW won't make things straight and give license to PROPER studio, like with Relic in case of DoW.

I'd like to see necromunda. The problem I'd see would be the "height levels" of the battlefield if done as a strategy game.
it would make for a great first person shooter though. BUT then, you'd have issues with the between game sequence and skills and stash. Either way, youd be losing out on aspects.

Now, I remember working on the dev team for the 40k mod for Tribes nd Edgecrusher and the rest of the team came up with some really great stuff. To be honest, I think it was better than many of the "official" games that have been released since then. i would almost say that this sort of endeavor would likely be the case with about anything you'll see on the shelf as the work will be done already and it would just be a matter of adapting a game we already know how to play to fit our needs.

If you are wondering how Necromunda would be just try Mordheim. So far it looks very promising and it's only pre Alpha stage.
You can't expect it to be exactly the same as the TT version but it feels a lot like it.
As a side note, it could have been cheaper so it could attract more people outside the fanboys..

I had a vision about a 40K video game. It's a sim. The main screen is an image of the entire galaxy, with 40K style tags marking crisis points in the Imperium. You click on those and it zooms you into a sector, you click into the sector and you can zoom into a specific system.

Ok you can see where I am going. from the system map you can do void war with space craft, planetary assaults, bombardments etc.

You can zoom into planets that you deployed troops to and direct their movements (Total War styles battles) etc.

What I would LOVE is if it was designed from the standpoint of an Administratum bureaucrat; wherein you have to show results and martial resources to appeal to the High Lords of Terra for military resources, as well as the Space Marines for support.

Think the Total War series, but SUPER complex.

I'm surprised there isn't more negativity towards the move towards a video games based hobby. Interesting....

40k based video games are NOT a "move towards a video game based hobby" in fact good 40k video games help the table top aspect of 40k. A smash hit video game can be one of the most effective advertisements you can have. If you visit a Battletech fourm and ask when people got into that game, for example, you can see distinct generations that came in with each Mechwarrior game. likewise a lot of people first developed a love of 40k through Dawn of War, or Space Marine.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Eternal Crusade, you mean the game that had a digital store and preorders up before there was even an alpha?

Do we know what kind of game regicide will be? Honestly I wasnt a fan of space marine, it bored me rigid. I can't see how a manic shooter game would lead anyone to get into a table top strategy game.

it's not the game type you're nesscarily advertising so much as the setting. a major major video game has eneugh players that even if only a quarter of a percent of those who play it get into the table top game you've gained a decent influx of new players

My favorite 40k video game is Dawn of War II, it's an amazing squad based tactical game.

I loved the first dawn of war and winter assault but it becomes incredibly formulaic pretty quickly and after hearing the dreadnought 'back to war' line fir the umpteenth time I switched off.
