So, I'm looking for any 25/28mm modern warfare models for IG/infinity proxies. I would like US stores, but have no idea what is decent or not. On a side note, a rule system for these models would be nice if there are any good ones.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Are you looking for any particular nation?

I'm afraid I dont know any US stores but there might be some US stockists.

Eureka - http://eurekamin.com.au/period_modern.php

As for rules Forc on Force seems to be popular.

Age of Glory here in the USA stocks all empress modern minis and imprint vehicles. They also have redstar Russians and Chechens as well as vehicles.

Tomorrow's War, by the Ambush Alley guys and published by Osprey, is a really interesting rules set for near future miniatures. If you want present-day skirmish, Radio Dish Dash publishes a cool game called Skirmish Sangin about the war in Afghanistan.

Don't be afraid of ordering from the UK. I find stuff shipped from there arrives just as fast and reliably as any US supplier.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Id go with 20mm, far more choice, but no use if you want them for Infinity!

Elhiem figures for example. Not too mention all the kits...

Empress Miniatures do the best 28mm moderns.

I've played force on force.
It's cool if you've only got about two squads of troopers per side.
The reaction system gets convoluted real quick.
Try "Savage Worlds" by pinnacle games.
Real easy and fully customizable.

it's not that I am afraid to ship from the UK, it's that it is so much more money when shipping from the UK, comparatively.

For modern minis, Empress is amazing. Their sculpt and casting quality are easily the best I've ever seen.

If you are less concerned with pure accuracy, Hasslefree does a number of Call of Duty/Battlefield inspired modern soldiers. You can pick them up through a number of US retailers.

For me it's become the opposite. With USPS more than doubling their rates to Canada, I can have things sent to me across the Atlantic for less half what the same package costs to be sent a few hundred miles by train or truck.

If you're interest is compatibility with Infinity and 40k miniatures, I'd probably recommend Black Scorpion's US Marines line. They're very tall and have slightly more heroic proportions. They're not cheap at around £2 per miniature, but their shipping is reasonable at 15% of total (minimum £3.50) and free worldwide at £50 or more.

For bases I'd recommend 1" laser cut discs off of eBay or from Litko (in the US). Or go for 1" across washers.

One of the problems with modern US infantry is that they've undergone considerable changes in the last 20 years. Many "moderns" are totally invalid (such as those Black Scorpion USMC), unless you're specifically doing 2003 First Battle of Fallujah / Operation Vigilant Resolve or somethin'.

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

For modern Moderns, I'd go with Eureka and/or Empress.
